The Constitutional showdown between the White House and Congress intensifies today as the tough-talkin' Texan dug in his spurs, holdin' tight to his little Mexican sidekick, while the grown ups in the House Judiaciary Committee authorized subpoenas for top White House aides like Karl Rove and Harriet Miers.

An angry, but still clueless, Tony Snow tersely answetred reporters' questions about Bush's objections to having his aides testify under oath, explaining that Bush wanted to avoid a media spectacle. Yeah, we know how much Bush hates those. He's such a shy, reserved type who dislikes media attention. He would never seek the spotlight, would never dress up in a flight suit or labratory coat or like a lumberjack for the cameras . . . oh wait a minute.

Meanwhile in the Senate, the last elected President - Al Gore - offered this commentary during a Senate Environment and Public Works Cmte. hearing on climate change: "I promise you a day will come when our children and grandchildren will look back and they will ask one of two questions. Either they will ask, 'what in God's name were they doing? Didn't they see the evidence?'"

Then he turned the subject from Iraq back to Bush's environmental policies.

Former Solicitor General Archibald Cox, was appointed Special Prosecutor by the senate and a three-month independent investigation - the Ervin committee - began in May 1973.

On 24 July 1974 the Supreme Court ordered Nixon to hand tape recordings of 64 White House conversations, rejecting the president's claims of executive privilege.

Three days later the House Judiciary Committee took the momentous step of recommending that the president of the United States be impeached and removed from office.

He was accused of misusing government agencies such as the FBI, the Central Intelligence Agency and the Internal Revenue Service during the course of a Watergate cover-up.

On 9 August Nixon became the first ever president of the United States to resign - and by doing so avoided impeachment.

not a great day. Had to rush LuLu in to vet's office. She hasn't eaten in 2 days and still throwing up.

She wouldn't even eat baby food!

So I get to the vet and she says "Oh, sorry, the vet is out sick today !! " I almost punched her out. This animal hospital has 20 vets now and it's like a crazy zoo. They were giving a cat an exam on the counter furrcrissakes, that's how busy they were. Finally a vet/surgeon saw me and did liquids, pepsid and blood work on LuLu. Don't know what's wrong yet.

116. Hi Truthseekers! Wanna hear my original excuse for tardiness?

Okay, I spent about 90 minutes trying to get our internet service back online, thinking it was a cable connection or some other crap. My husband finally gave up and took our younger child to his office to get internet service for a project for school. I was left supervising (or not) my 10 year old autistic son while I worked on he cables.

My husband comes home and says, "I smell garlic." My son had taken a 32 ounce jar of chopped garlic in water and dumped it into the washing machine with a couple of towels and started the washer (no detergent). I spent the next hour or so cleaning out the washer, running an extra cycle with bleach, then shaking out the towels outside, and starting over with the laundry.

I'm burning a bunch of vanilla candles. My house stinks so bad the fish in the aquarium are holding their noses.

I now have a very large goblet of merlot and my headphones on, so I guess everything will be okay.
