MO: Fired U.S. Attorney Fears that Public Corruption Investigation of Gov. Blunt Cost him his Job
http://www.missouridems.org/newsroom/pressreleases/display.asp?prID=135

Jefferson City, MO — Fired U.S. Attorney Bud Cummins told the LA Times in a story today that he fears he was fired because we was investigating criminal charges against Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt concerning his awarding of lucrative motor vehicle fee offices.

Cummins began investigating public corruption charges against Blunt in January 2006. Most of the seven other U.S. Attorneys that were fired by the Bush administration were also leading public corruption investigations against Republican office holders. The politically fueled firings have led both Republican and Democratic lawmakers to call on President Bush to fire Attorney General Gonzales.

The story also reveals that a private attorney for Gov. Blunt contacted Cummins during the investigation and made it clear to the prosecutor that the investigation was hurting the Republican governor politically in Missouri. Cummins told the LA Times, “The attorney said it was creating a lot of media in Missouri about political pressure and other allegations that the governor was under investigation."

The story goes on to say, “He (Cummins) said the attorney wanted assurances that the governor was not the target ‘because we’d like to be able to say that.’”

“It now becomes clear that the Bush administration was willing to fire a U.S. Attorney just because he was doing his job and investigating corruptions charges against fellow Republican Matt Blunt,” said Jack Cardetti, Missouri Democratic Party spokesman. “The Bush administration has gravely endangered the integrity of our justice system all in an attempt to protect fellow Republicans like Matt Blunt and their potentially illegal behavior.”

4. Ha. Tonight Chuck Schumer said"There's a lot of unhappy people
in the justice system, and the truth will come out. It can come in drips, or the WH can let their aids testify under oath, get it all out at once, fix the problem and move on. It's up to them!"

Well, Shrubie, Mr. Cummins story is ANOTHER DRIP for ya! What are ya going to do?

6. As I said in another thread
A lot of people don't become US attorneys for the money, though it can lead to bigger & better things down the road. Most, if not all, of them could make more money in private practice... a lot of people that become US attorneys do so because of their love of quaint things like the rule of law, the Constitution, etc...

9. No this one's probably not direct. These folks have to report to main justice about what they are
investigating. That's how they knew about it.

10. I see.
So they had NOTHING at all on him, other than the fact that he was investigating Blunt.

An even worse case of obstruction of justice.

8. Well, then, we need to get others to come forward.
This is beginning to look very crystal clear. We have the allegations from Cummins, but what we need to do is look into the reports he had to send back to main justice and how they were talked about, and whether the white house was appraised of those reports.

12. And who was that attorney??
The story also reveals that a private attorney for Gov. Blunt contacted Cummins during the investigation and made it clear to the prosecutor that the investigation was hurting the Republican governor politically in Missouri. Cummins told the LA Times, “The attorney said it was creating a lot of media in Missouri about political pressure and other allegations that the governor was under investigation."

Was the attorney the infamous Mark S. "Thor" Hearne, who testified before the bogus Carter-Baker commission, as an longtime "election rights advocate" for AC4VR.com (formed five days before the start of the hearings, and sharing office space in a Texas P.O.Box with Talon News, the employer of reporter, and sometime male prostitute, Jeff Gannon)?

Well, "Thor" Hearne represented the MO GOP on the Missouri HAVA Commission during the tenure of then (now Governor) Sec. of State Matt Blunt, and has sered him as personal counsel on prior occasions. Additionally, he represented the MO GOP during the appeal of the (now) Unconstitutional Photo Voter ID law.

And, interestingly, the sale of the office of Motor Vehicle Registration put into partisan GOP hands the single place where Missourians, who would have been disenfranchised by the Photo ID requirement (some 200,000 of them), could go to get the necessary ID.

Though the law (SB 1014) was declared unconstitutional, after the election it was found that the Division of Motor Vehicles had processed only 2,048 voters.

And, with 198,000 votes fewer to be cast in Missouri, would the Democrat Claire McCaskill have won? If she had not won, would the Democrats have taken control of the Senate?

This is a VERY high stakes game, and this little piece was all about Voter Disenfranchisement in the name of Photo Voter ID (or the "Don't Let Juan and Pancho Vote for Your Dead Grandparents") Law!

Their evil tentacles reach everywhere!!! Has anyone called this LATimes article to the attention of Schumer and Conyers & Lahey <did I spell that right?> and Waxman?? This is SOOOOOO obstruction of justice!! This and the Tobacco Companies' US Attorney piece today show how insidious the obstruction charges reach on these fired attorneys.

This Missouri case reeks of Karl Rove strategies.

:applause: Thanks, UiA!! :loveya:

Now, get thee back to the Market Watch thread!! (not really. I'm glad they let you out! )
