Have you applied for a TV converter Box coupon?
https://www.dtv2009.gov/

And, I think, you have to apply before 12/31/08.

Even if you don't need any, please apply for two and then donate them to a shelter, or other places that can use them.

3. I hadn't thought of that, thank you
We got two, but they don't work very well with rabbit ears. (Funny thing, a DVD recorder with a digital tuner that we had gotten earlier works fine with rabbit ears - I've heard a lot of reports that some of the converter boxes are kinda pieces of crap, but we got what was reported to be the best of the lot....)

Anyhow, we're going to have to come up with another plan, but the boxes would probably work fine with a roof antenna - thanks for the idea as to where to give them.

14. We have one with rabbit ears, the others are cable
Will have to see if it will work.

I just now filled the request and was told that the coupons will be mailed on January 9.

But got 'em yesterday. One coupon will be for my bedroom tv and the other one is going to a friend who has basically nothing but a roof over his head.

7. Good idea
I've applied but haven't gotten it yet. I'm seriously thinking of using my TV only to watch exercise DVDs anyway. I usually watch British programming on the Internet--I like it better than US programming, and the one US show I like I can watch online as well.

8. Mine arrived months ago.
But I didn't use them in time. I only pull the telly out of the corner to hook up for DVD's anyway. When I discovered when the local stations ran their weather forcast, I'd time my setup for then. I can't see shelling out money for something I can also get off the Internet tubes.

13. The ones I've seen, $30 to $50 per converter box.
Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City have them.

10. I don't watch TV.
It's not a religious issue, I just think it's crap. Making it high-definiton crap would not remedy the situation for me.

15. These days, when most programs can be watched online, I suppose it makes sense
On the other hand, this is how our leaders communicate with us, this is how we learn about events world wide.

It can be hard, but not impossible, to interact with others when a reference to a TV program will not pop. I am not talking about "reality shows" that I don't watch, or sports events, but some good ones like Obama on "60 minutes" and others. "60 minutes" this season has returned to its old, glory days of investigative reporting.

16. Ever heard of the internet?
Turns out that you can use it to find independent news about events worldwide without corporate propagandizing.

17. I got mine, and made my own antenna, but I also have an RCA 12 position
antenna and it works well too.

Here's instructions to build your own antenna. You need six metal coat hangers.

It works well. The only station I can't get is the local Fox channel. It's a problem they are trying to fix, but it appears that they are running out of time.

18. The local station have
3 or 4 station on each single one. News, kids, etc. Now if i could talk the local NBC station to run MSNBC from 8pm to 10pm, I'd dump the DISH.

22. Thanks. I thought I heard on the local news the end of the year
It is a good idea to extend it beyond the Feb. date when the switch will actually happen.
