Poll question: Will India Strike Pakistan Within the Next Couple of Months?

The rhetoric is worsening. The blame is being fixed, the ultimatums given.

Will India strike, with air or ground forces, inside Pakistan in the next couple of months?

And, if they do, will Pakistan respond militarily as they have promised?

To what end?

1. I think there is much likelier going to be a massive crackdown

on Muslim organizations within India. It probably won't work, but perhaps increased police attention to what some of them are up to might.

Any Muslim who travels to Pakistan is going to be scrutinized very closely, I'm afraid, and watched for any sign he's been trained by Pakistani intelligence for mischief back in India.

the government of india often stands as a 'legitimate' go between for it's terrrorists.

how can an autonomous country continue to allow attacks on it's soil with out a serious response?

rational people in pakistan NEED to forcefully step up.

India feels it must display a show of force at least. But, mostly strike against who they feel is the enemy.

Things get better or they get worse. And, its getting worse. Quickly. I think that this, along with Afghanistan will be the story of 2009, unfortunately.

for a while now, but it's coming from inside the country..including members of the military...not outside. I think it is very difficult to even presume to know what the political reality is between these countries in the Middle-east.

Every story is contradicted. What does seem clear is that not a lot of trust is abound. And, the heads of state will do whatever they can to avoid open war.

a while back but the history is a bitch. Especially the names. I can't differentiate very much when I read names I don't even know how to pronounce.

9. India knows Pakistan needs little help in becoming a failed state

They are on the verge of bankruptcy unless the IMF comes to the rescue. Military action won't be popular, more like covert operations to weaken the already tenuous hold the Pakistani government has. That way (as long as they don't leave substantial evidence) there can't be global repercussions. The covert operations is a more likely outcome than outright war, but I still think India will go that far.

But, Pakistan has vowed to defend herself. Do you think that is just bolstering or reality. I read that Pakistan's Air Force is a year away from developing true retaliatory capabilities. This gives India a window to act.
