Connell sabotage fears reported by Cleveland TV news

This short piece hits plenty of the notes -- "untimely" death, stolen elections, mystery payments, threats from Rove, Arnebeck wanting him protected -- but also adds the eye-opening (and unfortunately, unsourced) disclosure that Connell was told not to fly because his plane might have been sabotaged.

If they're after you and you stay off of small planes, they find another method. Being careful might protect a person from random violence or accidents or other dangers, but I don't see how it protects anybody from assassination.

3. The reporter certainly included all the concerns in his report. K&R.

He said that Connell had been accused of rigging the election for Bush, which Connell denied under oath. But on closer examination, Arnebeck asked for protection for Connell. Arnebeck was concerned that if Connell told all he knew, it would put Connell's life in jeopardy.

Sounds like Connell told Arnebeck more than we know about.

Also, the reporter said that Connell was paid $800,000 by Bush's campaign but it's unclear for what.

The station issued an extended report (happily, the reporter in this one isn't a marblemouth).

They report that it was a friend of his who advised him not to fly because he worried about sabotage.

And they say Connell cancelled flights twice in the last couple of months because of "suspicious problems with his plane."

The closer: "It is too early to tell if the federal investigation into the cause of Connell's death has any kind of tie to the work he provided from this office (building in background) for the President."

13. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but

Channel 19 is well known in Cleveland as the station that sensationalizes the news and will look at any story for the possible sizzling exploitation factor. So it's not really a surprise that they would report this story in this way. Sadly, it doesn't lend it any legitimacy--in fact, it may do exactly the opposite, because they're kind of the National Enquirer of local news.
