today is NATIONAL CALL-IN DAY FOR HR676 -- single-payer (Medicare for All)
http://www.pdamerica.org/articles/alliances/2008-12-19-10-09-25-alliances.php

The Leadership Conference for Guaranteed Healthcare/National Single Payer Coalition Steering Committee has adopted an action plan that includes two national call-in days to Congressional members. PDA is a key member organization of the Leadership Conference on Guaranteed Healthcare with California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, Healthcare-NOW! , and Physicians for a National Health Plan. The call-in days will focus coalition organizations on asking their membership to call individual members of Congress to support HR676.

The first national call-in day is Monday, December 22nd. Activists are asked to target their representatives in their home districts.

The second national call-in day is Thursday, January 15th. Activists will target the DC offices of their representatives.

We also encourage activists to target Senator Kennedy's office on December 22nd. According to a letter he sent in response to a request to support HR 676, he stated "In recent weeks I have been working on legislation that will have bipartisan support and guarantee quality, affordable health care for all Americans and their families." We need to let him know that the only way to achieve this is by implementing single-payer national health care for all. Kennedy's in-district office can be contacted at Phone: 617-565-3170 / Fax: 617-565-3183.

Come on, folks. Let's do it.

Please keep this kicked.

3. We should. Without it at least being an option, there will be NO
meaningful change in our system and more medical bankrupcies and uninsured.

6. I will push where I can. It is a crisis that will not go away unless
addressed in a real, not lip service manner.

10. Thank you for posting.
The funny things is I know some Republicans who voted for Obama because they wanted to do something about the healthcare situation. It's not like people are steadfast against doing some real change. I wish the politicians undertsood that instead of always listening to the lobbyists.

Go to www.Thomas.gov On the opening page under search by representative with the drop down menu click on Conyers. His page comes up and then it's #15 (HR 676) and then click highlighted co-sponsors. Sorry.

19. I have found that using the govtrack link for posting works
better, it may not always have the latest updates, but you can get to the Thomas site for that bill by clicking the link on the bottom right where it says...

"Primary Source
See H.R. 676 on THOMAS for the official source of information on this bill or resolution."

Govtrack does give some additional info on votes for bills, such as a breakdown by party etc.

One example is the recent financial bailout bill...

25. Dang, I missed this and for health-care reasons
I have put this on my schedule for January. I was injured in a freak accident a few weeks ago, people were trying to call 911, I begged them not to.... because I had no health insurance, nothing we can afford. So once the shock was over enough for me to drive, I drove one eyed, glasses broke in half, (legally blind without glasses), had 80 miles to drive home, stopped at a pharmacy to pick up a big ass bottle of Advil, butterfly stitches & antibiotic cream, the pharmacist suggest I needed more then that, I just laughed and said... without health insurance, this is all I am getting!

As the weeks have progressed, the broken skin healed, it was now obvious that I had done some serious harm. I went to my little clinic in town, where I was told I needed massage and truly had no idea why my eye was weeping and sent me on my way. No exam, $85.00 for 10 minutes of shit treatment.

Over the weekend the shoulder pain just became unbearable. I found a new clinic about 70 miles away, started by ER Docs that are trying to provide health-care at a reasonable price. after 6 xrays, at least an hour with the Doc & full exam, the news was not what I was wanting to hear, a torn rotator cuff, anterial humeral. A friend suggested I call the car insurance to see if they would cover this... I wasn't driving, nor hit by a car, just a freak accident while getting into the car. I am lucky that my medical coverage is going to cover up to $5,000.00. We are hoping Physical Therp/massage will help in healing my shoulder, but the treatment may be too late... we will see.

Had I had health insurance I would have gone for xrays, stitches, etc instead of self treating & had a head start with the torn shoulder. Now the big miracle here is not only that the insurance will cover some of my costs, but this new clinic I went to .... they have a real burden in their hearts about people having access to good health care, at a reasonable cost. The cost today, 6 xrays, 1 hour with Doc, $115.00 and was since by a Trauma Doc. I brought home brochures/cards to hand out to people as they can handle all sorts of issues. I hope this is the type of health care that will be available to all of us in the near future. Had I gone to the hospital this would have been at least $4,000.00, if not more. I'm a lucky person today, I wish I would have known about them at the time of my accident.

It was embarrassing not having health insurance, until I went into this clinic today. They understood and were their to provide me excellent health care at a price that I could afford.

Sorry for the long rattle..... but how many others are out there that have avoided going to a Doc because of no insurance? I wen to the town clinic, they KNOW I'm broke, charged me $85 for a 10 minute, no good exam and treated like I have cooties with no health insurance. I go to a this new clinic and I was treated with respect, urgency and professional staff.

Okay, I'll stop
Azlady
