Utility bills trouble customers - rates increase, CEO pay jumps from 2.7 to 3.27 Million a year
Utility bills trouble customers

(AL) Vicky Brown has been listening to her customers’ tales of woe about November-December electric bills that nearly doubled.

She can feel their pain. Her own bill for Hairstyles Family Fair Care near Elkmont also doubled.

“Mine went from $201 to $405,” said Brown. “And I’ve got a whole list of people whose bills did the same.”

Brown said she lives in a trailer behind her salon and both are on the same meter, but she spends most of her time in the salon.

“I’ve been reading that TVA gave their executive a big raise, but when Americans are suffering because they can’t pay their heating bills, there’s got to be something wrong,” said Brown.

She was referring to the October move by the TVA board to increase President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Kilgore’s compensation from about $2.7 million to $3.27 million.

The increase occurred 29 days after the nation’s largest public utility's 20-percent rate hike went into effect. It was the largest rate hike in 30-plus years.

1. As the cost of energy collapsed (oil, nat. gas, coal) the rates INCREASED?
Sounds like an Enron kind of scheme.

2. This kind of thing is what we need changed.
Commodities that we need to survive should be regulated so CEO's can't make millions while they raise the rates of the customers. We all so need laws that prevent CEO's from getting outrageous salaries and bonus's! Laws can be passed to stop this practice and it needs to be done as soon as possible.

Eventually the Utilities will go bust and be bailed out also. But not before management clears out the vault.

5. This business with boards of directors is a recurring theme.
Same story with overpaid CEOs everywhere. A responsible board would crack down on this bullshit. Of course, they all hang out at the same country clubs, so what are the odds of a "responsible board?"

6. I have an empty house with nothing on but the heat at 60 to keep pipes from freezing. Bill
for Nov-Dec 13th just arrived. It's $165.00

This is bullshit. Deregulation of this industry, like all the others, is killing Americans. rec'd
