NPR Pissed Me Off Today.
AAR is off the air in Burlington as of recently, so when i'm driving around town I have to listen to NPR. Shouldn't be so bad, right?

In the evening news this evening they did a 90-sec spot on Al Gore's appearance today in Congress.

GET THIS.

They only described one thing Gore said - and that was how the Government should put a tax on carbon emissions. They did not have a single quotation or sound clip, just an inference about Gore wanting to put on the tax.

BUT....

They did manage to play a sould clip of Denny Hastert saying that the tax would hurt the economy.

They did not do anything to refute that stupid argument. We all know that renewable energy would actually HELP the economy.

But the real point is that they managed to play a sound clip of Hastert's propaganda, and nothing from what Gore had to say about the evidence of global warming.

WTF? NPR??? WTF???

8. I could easily argue with you on that
Objectivity has been gone since the day they fired Bob Edwards.

2. Sounds like they took the AP's report verbatim.
Heard the same thing on the local AAR affiliate today. They do AP news, not AAR news, and I heard essentially the same report there.

14. I have half a mind to
dig up the audio from that feed if I can and put the sound clip up for everyone to hear. it was so slanted... but what really bothered me was, it was slanted in a real straightforward kind of way. it was presented objectively but it only gave one side of the story, it was sort of sneaky I thought.

3. Yeah, I had to abandon NPR back in the 2000 campaign, when they did a seg on Gore
and his "lying" problem, complete with a litany of "Christians" saying their main problem with Gore was his lying, therefore they couldn't vote for him. This was well after all the "Gore lied" nonsense had been debunked, yet NPR mentioned that not once.

Same old media. PR Department for the Republican Party, they just do it a little more smoothly.

4. Didn't the chimp appoint an extreme right-winger to run NPR?
I remember reading something about it. He's purged and politicized every department, replacing career civil servants with hacks.

GOP takes aim at PBS funding
House panel backs budget reductions
By Rick Klein, Globe Staff | June 8, 2006

WASHINGTON -- House Republicans yesterday revived their efforts to slash funding for public broadcasting, as a key committee approved a $115 million reduction in the budget for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that could force the elimination of some popular PBS and NPR programs.

On a party-line vote, the House Appropriations subcommittee that oversees health and education funding approved the cut to the budget for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which distributes money to the Public Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio. It would reduce the corporation's budget by 23 percent next year, to $380 million, in a cut that Republicans said was necessary to rein in government spending.

5. My NPR listening is now limited to specific programs
and then only occasionally. Sometimes I would almost rather listen to a Hannity because I know he is lying and not trying to pretend he isn't.
We lost our AAR also and radio really really sucks anymore.

7. I have been furious for a while. the news hour with jim lehrer is getting as bad as abc.
They always do this equal time for dem and repub thing, and sometimes the questions really are NOT equal. The concept of showing different sides of a story is a good one. But, as in this instance, you should not give denny hastert equal time with al gore to talk about global warming. a little bit of reality, please.

12. Not The Story I Heard On NPR
they had Gore comparing Global Warming to "your baby has a fever" and even taking a subtle swipe at Michael Crighton. Then they had some Republicans talking about how conservation should be a part of being conservative and that he liked some of Gore's market based solutions. Another (supportive) Republican said something like he didn't want people to think they were all idiots.

So, it was very positive.

19. I renew...
...with a note that basically says "here's the usual family membership, reduced proportionately to reflect the amount of your air time per day that is given over to NPR's national news and opinion programming".

MPBN does excellent state news, and carries some BBC. Don't want them penalized for that.
