Total market value of American Community Newspapers (86 newspapers): $30,710
http://www.fitzandjen.com/2008/12/000ashare-american-community-newspapers-establishes-new-low-for-newspaper-stocks-.html

American Community Newspapers (OTC: ACNI.PK) stock has now gone so low it’s about to test the limits of even the Pink Sheets' sub-dollar reporting capabilities. Monday morning just before noon -- on an apparent sell-off by one investor -- ACNI.PK fell to $0.001, one one-hundredths of a penny.

That gives the publisher of the daily the Stillwater (Minn.) Gazette and the McKinney (Texas) Courier-Gazette, and many non-dailies a market cap of $30,710.

Trading volume in the stock was more than 30 times an entire day’s average, and was accounted mostly by that single 350,000-share trade just before noon.

American Community surely isn’t fretting over the stock price, which has been sub-penny for the past couple of months. Its securities have been de-registered with the SEC, and its far bigger problem is with its lenders.

1. $0.001 is one-TENTH of a penny!
One-HUNDREDTH of a penny would be $0.0001.

Nice journalism there, whoever wrote this story....

3. A damn interesting thought, but
you'd really want to find out what they owe and to whom.

4. Tragic. Journalism, like novel writing, are dying art forms.
Television writing (although, I'm not one of them) is a dying art form, replaced by the crud of Reality TV.

Novels have been replaced by reality and blogs, and places like this, great though they are.

5. i don't see the tragedy
if they're like the small newspapers around here i bet many of these "community papers" are just blather about the local high school soccer and football teams and the junior league wives and have absolutely nothing of interest or value except ass-kissing the rich and their spawn

as for the novel, it is in its golden age, i would defy you to point at another time in human history when we have had so many novels of high quality at easy public reach

6. More journalism is probably practiced on DU daily than any of these dinosaur print newspapers
have managed in the past couple of decades. I wouldn't even pay $30 to own a print newspaper in this day and age. Good riddance.
