Rick Warren pulls anti-gay language from his Web site
"So Rick Warren pulled the anti-gay language from his church Web site. The site used to explicitly ban gays from membership in the church."

"Now the offending language is gone, but you can still find the anti-gay language via Google's cache.

So does Rick Warren now welcome gays, all gays, as members of his church? Or is he simply embarrassed of his views - embarrassed of God's views, per Warren's own admission? And if Warren is embarrassed of God's views, then what is he doing as a public spokesman on religion?"

Hmmmmmmmmm..........

1. He's embarrassed? Good! Nothing like a good public shaming...
I guess we know now what Obama was up to. He had to have had this agreed to before he let Warren do the invocation...

5. No way. Obama's no dope, if that were a quid pro quo he'd have insisted on it BEFORE the invitation

9. I think he did. It's just a guess, but I think he pretty much told Warren that the invocation
was conditional on Warren's showing true willingness to make some changes.

My question now is how far those changes go and are they authentic? We shall see...

16. Well, I don't think deleting a couple of sentences from a web page is an epiphany
of any substance. We shall see...holding my breath I am not.

45. So that page is still up, but they removed some of another one that said gays aren't welcome
in their church? I never saw that original one so I don't know exactly what was being praised after the change. I just meant I don't believe the Saddlebackers have changed their spots...they're certainly capable of a little misdirection by selective editing.

48. WE should all the sceptical until we see how this plays out.
The fact is, we just don't know. It will be phony or it will be real. And for once, could we have a press that doesn't dress up things they know isn't true about a "ranch>"?

52. Right we really don't know at all. Good point about the ranch...
I don't believe a guy like Warren can come anywhere close to a reversal of position on this...it wouldn't even benefit him - at least not for a very very long time.

If it weren't for his hate speech, I would be inclined to put him into the "decent evangelical" column. People DO change... look at Sen. Byrd... he used to be a huge freakin' racist!

No hate, just clueless about what is going on. He didn't seem to "get it". I couldn't understand his problem was.

It was kind of a "senior moment" for MSNBC...

8. For all the heat Obama has taken
it is good to know that as a consequence Warren has gotten quite a bit of flak as well.

I never heard of the guy before that Faith Forum Debate. I didn't know warren's positions on issues, or anything about what he's been on record as saying.

This brouhaha has pulled the mask off the face of Rick Warren. I think we all know a whole lot more about him than we ever did before. Maybe that's a good thing.

Obama got more than he expected but then so did Rick Warren.

on his hypocrisy. The speech he gives will be a mea culpa and a request for unity (my assessment)

49. I hope for unity but I don't expect a mea culpa (check back with me on Jan. 20).
I think he may say something in the way of inclusiveness. I don't expect him to give a big, blanket acceptance of gay marriage, but he may hint at being more than open to suggestion...

29. Yeah, but I was just as mad as you.
And I am still bothered with Rick Warren being there with his prayer. The thing is that I saw this as putting incredible pressure on Warren, as opposed to if Obama had ignored him. I thought that all the howling would neutralize Warren.

Apparently, this all has forced Warren to moderate his approach. (And usually, I'm no fan of moderation. :) )

55. When Warren goes on national television and
says that he's been wrong all these years and that he now understands that same-sex marriage is just fine in the eyes of God, then I'll listen.

When he performs his first marriages between people of the same sex, then I'll know that he's changed his tune.

Until then...I don't trust this charlatan one little bit.
