Remember the computer documents stolen from Dem Judiciary Committee offices from '01 to '03?

Is this yet another investigation that was shut down by this politicized DOJ? It certainly went down the memory hole. Does anyone know what, if anything, came of this?

CREW Files Complaint Against Department of Justice for Withholding Documents Stolen from Democratic Senate Judiciary Committee Staff Members

WASHINGTON -- November 10 -- Earlier today, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) filed a complaint against the Department of Justice (DOJ) in the District Court for the District of Columbia for failing to produce documents pursuant to Freedom of Information Act Request (FOIA). CREW had asked DOJ to produce any records relating to documents stolen from the computers of Democratic staff to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Last March, Senate Sergeant-at-Arms William Pickle issued a report finding that former Senate staff aide Manuel Miranda, who worked first for Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch and later Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, with the assistance of former clerk Jason Lundell, accessed materials on the computers of Democratic staff for a period of 18 months from November 2001 through April 2003. Some of these documents, which concerned judicial nominations, were leaked to the media.

In February 2004, CREW sent FOIA requests to DOJ requesting any communications regarding judicial nominations that involved documents belonging to Democratic staff. After nearly 8 months, DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel sent a response to CREW indicating that the Office has such documents, but claiming that they are exempt disclosure as they are protected by "the deliberative process" and "attorney client privilege."

CREW's executive director Melanie Sloan said that "the Department of Justice's claim that stolen documents are exempt from release under the FOIA is ludicrous. The fact that our nation's chief law enforcement office appears to have knowingly received documents stolen from the computers of democratic staff members, and then failed to return those documents to their rightful owners -- or even told any Democratic Senator on the Committee that it had received such documents is unbelievable." Sloan continued, "On top of that, to then claim the documents are protected by attorney client privilege is outrageous and CREW is looking forward to hearing a federal court judge's reaction to this argument."

election. Examine every important move by the top Dems and Dem advisors and you will see deference to Bush on almost every matter.

Dems on the 9-11 commission and the Senate Iraq Intel panels all agreed to shut up on what they learned during those processes so it could not be used during the campaign, and the same with Senate Dems like Biden who promised Bush he would not politicize Iraq war in 2004.

Terry McAuliffe never lifted a finger to build the party infrastructure in any of the crucial swing states, let alone any of the red states where they were completely collapsed by 2002, and instead kept most of the DNC's money involved with DC-centric projects.

WASHINGTON --A former Senate staffer filed a federal lawsuit Monday to stop an investigation into how Republicans obtained computer memos taken from Democrats' machines.

Manuel Miranda asked the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to stop a Justice Department and Secret Service investigation into whether a crime was committed when he and another of Sen. Orrin Hatch's former employees got Democratic documents from a computer server shared by both sides. Miranda worked for the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which Hatch, R-Utah, is chairman.

The sergeant-at-arms referral blamed the intrusion on Miranda, who worked for Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and Hatch on the Judiciary Committee; and on Jason Lundell, a clerk who worked on nominations for Hatch. Miranda resigned during the dispute early this year. Lundell left late last year after word of the affair first emerged.
