Bolton on humanitarian intervention: ‘Do it with your own sons and daughters, not with mine.’
.....Yosemite John is a blight on the human race.

from ThinkProgress:

Bolton on humanitarian intervention: ‘Do it with your own sons and daughters, not with mine.’»

Earlier this month, the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto hosted the second in a series of so-called “Munk Debates” on public policy. This particular debate asked the participants if the international community should intervene in man-made humanitarian crises if the national governments involved fail to act. International Crisis Group CEO Gareth Evans and actor/activist Mia Farrow said the international community should intervene, arguing it has a “responsibility to protect.” However, former Bush administration war hawk John Bolton and Canadian military General Rick Hillier argued against. Bolton, in particular, offered some callous advice to those in favor of humanitarian intervention:

BOLTON: Now I recognize, that the motives of those who advocate responsibility to protect is well intentioned and I respect those who believe in it as a doctrine and I would simply say this to all of you and I say it to you with respect. If you want to engage in humanitarian intervention, do it with your own sons and daughters, not with mine.

Of course Bolton is a staunch supporter of the Iraq war and has spent the better part of the last year calling for one with Iran. Presumably he would have no problem sending his children to fight there.

2. Maybe they invite him just to mock him.....
I can't imagine the braintrust of a first-rate cultural institution like the Royal Ontario Museum (A must-visit for anyone who's never been to Toronto) taking Bolton very seriously.

4. Can he have balls any bigger?
Send your own kids off to feed the hungry, you treehuggers, but only after I allow them back from Iraq, where I've had them much more productively deployed in shooting the hungry.

7. What an idiot. I was astounded to hear he was invited
The Munk Centre for International Studies is a SERIOUS, RESPECTED organization here in Canada.

I regularly listen to Janice Stein, a director for the Munk Centre when she appears on our TVOntario program "The Agenda"

When I had heard that BOLTON was invited to the lecture series this year, I was astounded.

I'm actually GLAD that he made an ass of himself (although the organizers should have realized it was inveitable) so that he'll NEVER be invited again.

You can't invite a neocon to a serious civil forum. You'll get burned every time.

9. That's the way it's been since the "Dawn of Time." Emperors and Empires ask those to fight
who have no job prospects when the Empire is in Need of Money after Burning through it ALL. It's a viscious cycle. We Americans with our vaunted "Constitution & Bill of Rights" thought the "old ways" were GONE.

Sadly we learn that we are just a "Blip in Time" and prey to the same forces that have RULED since the DAWN OF TIME.

Can WE CHANGE THIS? What can WE do to CHANGE IT?
