I realize that this is a rough patch (to say the least) for the people of DU. It is troubling and painful to see and to be a part of. And I've spent more time in the lounge because of it.
I got here (the first time) in '01 and lasted a while, then got banned for something dumb that I did.
I have always known and have seen with my own eyes how much the people here care about so many things. Mostly, humanity in general. And for their families, friends, and loved ones. And for the quality of life, and the lives of other beings. I've always loved the tone of integration and harmony that emanates from this place. And the sense of humor and creativity.
I also realize that anonymous internet forums operate within a certain egoic realm. Meaning that one can say things here that could barely be said in person to someone's face. And with differing context, terminology and motivation. And results.
It seems that this latest and most current issue kind of came from left field. I did not see it coming the way it did, and maybe that's true for others.
But it's here and we're churning through it. Some storms you can see coming, some develop right over you. It's one lesson from living in Florida for 52 years.
My point, and I do have one, is that this community has been through so much over the past 8 years and it has emerged relatively intact. The purpose of this place has outlived all of those who did not survive the DU experience.
These conflicts and these open wounds are just a part of the larger story here. When I try to imagine all the different types of people, who log on day after day, several times a day.... for years on end - just like I have done - I realize that we are all smaller parts of the larger picture. And that we are a grouping of people that really do want justice and equity and harmony for all beings in this world.
And, even though we each seem to have differing ways to achieve it, we are mostly and often on the same level about what we hope for and what we want. I'm certain we will rise from this latest challenge, setback, obstacle, annoyance, hindrance, letdown, heartbreak.
And to once again come together for the common good and to enhance and enrich all the many wonderful and diverse lives that dwell and thrive upon this strange and beautiful planet.
