Just a reminder that being an advocate in certain causes means different things to different people. It is more important to me how someone addresses an issue rather than just hearing they are dedicated to the cause. I have no idea what Rev. Warren's specific actions are in the areas in which he is supposed to be active. My examples above are actually contrasting two local organizations within my county. But it serves as a reminder to me that I tend to make assumptions based on my own desired approach and maybe I need to dig a little deeper sometimes.

1. You raise a good point. Mother Teresa was admired and beloved by many,
....but there are some very good and valid criticisms of her work as well.

2. The furor over Warren is what started my thought process on this.

I kept hearing how much he was dedicated to the causes of HIV/AIDS and poverty and started thinking, "okay he's got some redeeming qualities," and then I remembered this nutjob group in town. The same things could be said about them. Yet this is a group that oppresses their women, doesn't allow their men to wear two-toned shoes and other really bizzaro things that make absolutely no sense to me. Seriously, what kind of theologly leads you to ban two-toned shoes?

Your example of Mother Teresa is a good one. There are some valid criticisms of her work, but those criticisms are not kindly received in most circles.
