Is anyone else watching Letterman with Dustin Hoffman?

1. I just tuned in and caught the Jose Ferrar story.

He's always so much fun.

4. Earlier he was telling stories of his start in NYC. First he roomed with

Gene Hackman and then with Robert Duvall.
He and Duvall lived in a 6 floor walkup.

He said he was in the shower one morning with a girl who had slept over. Duvall comes home from his midnight to 8AM shift at the post office. He comes into the bathroom. Hoffman says "I'm busy in here, with a friend." Duvall proceeds to takeoff all his clothes and get into the shower with them. Sticks his and out to shake hands with the woman, and says "Hi, I'm Bob Duvall."

7. What a bunch of characters. I love all three of them.

I think Dustin Hoffman played himself in "Meet the Fockers" His character was so similar to how he normally behaves. Love, love, love him.

10. That was a funny movie. I saw an interview and it turns out that way

back in the day, like when he was rooming with Duvall...Hoffman had dated Barbara Streisand's roommate. They have known each other forever.

9. Yup. Great segments with Hoffman ... he's a brilliant actor. Totally.

'The Graduate' was my "coming of age" film ... my era ... and it NAILED it. Absolutely brilliant film adaptation and Hoffman OWNS the part. His work in 'Tootsie" and 'Little Big Man' and a host of other amazing works just confirms he's one of the all-time GREATS.

pretty close to how Hoffman really was at the time.

13. A Hoffman Story From My Uncle.

Back in the early 80s, my young cousin was being treated for cancer at Sloan-Kettering in NYC. My Uncle was taking the elevator and, since he was alone, let down his John Wayneish facade and started crying with his face in his hands. Someone else got on the elevator and put his arm around my uncle's shoulder and hugged him when they got oit in the lobby.

My uncle looked up and it was Dustin Hoffman. He wished my uncle well and went on his way.

BTW, my cousin made a full recovery.

On the show tonight he mentioned that he and his wife started a camp for children with cancer back in the 80s.
It came up because they were discussing Paul Newman. Newman and Hoffman crossed paths when Newman asked Hoffman for advice about
setting up the Hole in the Wall Gang, Newman's camp for children with cancer.
