John Edwards to Discuss Wife's Health -- WaPo --- This has me worried.
By NEDRA PICKLER
The Associated Press
Wednesday, March 21, 2007; 11:21 PM

WASHINGTON -- Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards accompanied his wife, Elizabeth, who has been treated for breast cancer, on a doctor's visit Wednesday. His campaign said they would hold a news conference in their hometown Thursday to discuss her health.

Campaign officials refused to answer any questions about what the Edwardses learned at the doctor's appointment or how it might affect his candidacy. Edwards had cut short a trip to Iowa Tuesday night to be with his wife Wednesday but still attended a barbecue fundraiser later in the evening in their hometown of Chapel Hill, N.C.

The campaign had said that Mrs. Edwards, 57, had a follow-up appointment to a routine test she had Monday. The campaign explained that she had similar follow-ups in the past but they always resulted in a clean bill of health.

The campaign refused to elaborate Wednesday. Family friends said Wednesday night that they didn't know of any new complications to her health.

I hope all went well for her today.

7. Elizabeth came here...
After the 2004 elections, and spread such comfort with her grace and her concern for us, when so many of us were hurting and confused and just needed a word from someone, anyone...

I have never, in my life, seen anything like what she did. And she hung around. She stuck with us, to help us heal. She came back, again and again.

There are no words to describe someone like that, at least not in a way that gives full measure.

As God is my witness, if ever asked, I will do anything to help that family out, should they ask. Sleep on the floor of their barn to do it, too. Not because I am an "Edwards Supporter". I haven't made my mind up like that. Such a thing is so banal in comparison to what might be the real concerns right now.

Just because they are simply good and decent folk, the kind we have so few of, in both public and private life, and if their's is a time of need, I would do it simply because she helped me and my friends in our time of need, in a way so personal and so healing. In a way that no one else could seem to find the time to spare.

Because, as my mother who was from South Carolina taught me, that's what Good Folks do. Especially in times of sickness, need and family crisis.

Nothing would make me happier than to never be needed. Like that.

23. I remember.
It was the first time it occured to me that someone important might be listening. I hope there's nothing but good news, but I'll support the Edwards whatever happens.

8. Well, I hate to say it, but it can't be good news due to the way it's being handled.
If all were fine, they would make an announcement about it through the normal course of business and that would be that.

The fact that a news conference has been scheduled in their hometown tells me there's a problem.

Sending good thoughts to the Edwards family, and hoping for the best.

12. I think you are right. It does not sound good.

I hope there is a way it's not bad, but I didn't realize it was a hometown announcement. That is scary.

I wish them the best case scenario whatever the news is. Too hell with the campaign - their private lives come first.
