Donald Rumsfeld purchased property where Frederick Douglass was beaten and tortured
Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 11:51 AM by HamdenRice
I don't have a transcript yet. But it was on Democracy Now this morning.

Harper's has a 25th anniversary compilation of the Harper's Index -- the collection published every month of various (disturbing) statistics, usually phrased in an amusing backwards way.

The guest, the publisher of Harper's, mentioned that one of the facts in this index was about Rumsfeld's purchase of a plantation where Frederick Douglass was beaten and tortured (in order to "break" him) when he was a slave child:

Minimum number of times that Frederick Douglas was beaten in what is now Donald Rumsfeld's vacation home: 25

2. So Donald is going to use it to torture people today?
Or at least tell Bush how many are in a brazillion, because we all think it's torture to get to read that joke again?

Please pardon my blistering blind ignorance, I don't see much less understand any association about some guy buying a building and plot of land that used to be used to house and harm slaves two centuries ago -- which without actual correlating fact is a loose inference at best.

Maybe Donny has an ulterior motive. I don't know! Without that transcript, there's very little detail to respond to.

3. Actually, Douglass was a bit older than a child
If memory serves, he was a teenager at the time. The slave breaker never broke him, btw.
