Bush pardons two Ohioans -- cocaine dealer and embezzler
WASHINGTON -- President Bush pardoned two Ohioans today, using his presidential powers to remove the sting and stigma of federal criminal convictions. Neither is from the Cleveland area.
William Thomas Alvis III, of Flushing, near the West Virginia border, was convicted in 1990 of possession of an unregistered firearm and distribution of cocaine. He was sentenced to 13 months in prison and five years of supervised release following the prison term, according to the Justice Depatment.
Donald Edward Roessler, of Harrison, west of Cincinnati on the Indiana border, served two years of probation starting in 1971 after being convicted of embezzlement of mail matter.
These were among 19 pardons and one sentence commutation the Justice Department and White House announced this afternoon.
