Amazing Grace and how it applies to today
So we went to watch the movie... and there are plenty of very good lessons in the movie

First off, I suggest you leave your partisan glasses in the car or you may miss them.

Now to the lessons.

1.- If you want something hard enough you will have to fight for it... sometimes for many years, as in 15 in the case of this particular member of Parliament

2,- Anybody who watches ask the PM on C-SPAN, will quickly notice that some things have not changed in the british system... as in insults

3.- Parliamentary procedure takes a long time. Yep, I am talking to the usual suspects who expect the Dems to change the word overnight. For the damn record, they are moving faster than I expected...that said watch this movie and then THINK on why is this taking so damn long...well look at how long it took him to build his alliances, and build his way to getting his bill passed... and pay attention as to how they opened the door...and if any of you thinks this has changed just because we have computers and Yahoo and Youtube... nope, some things truly have not changed.

Now this movie was about history and it was very well done. I highly recommend it... and unlike other movies I've watched in the past (300 anybody), this is not a popcorn munching, beefcake watching, ADULT movie... but a thinking movie

2. When I saw your post, I thought it was about the song
So I thought

Thank God almighty
Free at last.

With this faith,
we will be able to hew out
of the mountain of despair
a stone of hope.

With this faith,
we will be able to transform
the jangling discords of our nation
into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.

With this faith,
we will be able to work together,
to pray together,
to struggle together
, to go to jail together,
to stand up for freedom together,
knowing that we will be free one day.

we will be able
to speed up that day
when all of God's children,

black men
and white men,
Jews and Gentiles,
Protestants and Catholics,
will be able to join hands and sing in the words
of the old Negro spiritual:

Free at last! Free at last!

Thank God Almighty, we are free at last...............(ok a little over the top, I was)
=====================================================

I will have to see the movie if you suggest it.
web link?

thanks

5. I saw the ads for this movie and immediately put it on my list.
I understand your frustration with the "why isn't this fixed already" crowd. The ship of state is one big damn boat. I am just so relieved that the tugboats have arrived. The fact that they even showed up is a testament to the determination of citizens "paying attention" and not getting distracted by the vestigial "news" media.
