Dead Santas everywhere we looked .........

..... or at least so it seemed.

Out and about here in Everybody'sTheSameVille.

Those inflatable lawn Santas (and reindeer and sugar plum fairies and nativities and whatever else) seem to be everywhere. At night they just look kinda tacky. But in the daylight?

All we'd need to complete the scene is yellow crime scene tape and some CSI-type making a chalk outline ..........

Kids are not traumatized by this?



I'll stick with my Snoopy lights strung perfunctorily on the roof of our front porch.

2. Certainly the day after Xmas!

My mother always grumbled there was nothing quite as "over" as Christmas was, usually by 10 AM.

At least those Santas are flat in the front yard. Flat in the road would send little kids into paroxysms of wailing and years of therapy.

4. Don't get me started on the Snoopy lights!!

It's become a tradition now, but the first year these lights astonished me. Everybody else has those tasteful little white ones, and we have these HUGE multi-colored ones H2S has probably had since the 1970s. (He says, "They still make 'em," as if that were a solid defense.)

I've come to accept the annual humiliation of those lights. In SameVille, we definitely stand out.

(At least we don't have dead Santas lying in our yard!)

..... as last year ..... and the years before ..... except we didn't do the window candle lights. Don't wanna get too fussy and over the top, ya know.

6. In a nearby neighborhood the people go all out in decorating their houses...

People drive by, or park nearby and walk up and down these block with ornate and really over the top, moving characters with flashing lights and huge statues, etc...
A couple of years ago I went with a group of people who were interested in seeing what all the fuss was about. We had to park about 3 blocks away and start walking. We went thru the several blocks that had these jaw-dropping, no doubt REALLY costly displays in, on, over and around their houses.

On our way home we passed a cute little house, and all they had in their front yard, was one of these:

There was Peanuts music playing softly, and it was just wonderful.
After spending the good part of an hour wandering around looking at all those displays, this Peanuts tree is the only one I remember.

8. One block over from my sister-in-laws this was in the front yard:

If I had a front yard I might be tempted to put one of these up myself.

That's why I thought you deserve the lamp. If you can live with the frog in the house - I assume year 'round - Sparkly ought to be able to put up with the lamp for a month or so.

20. I've been eyeing the inflatable leg lamp for next year

I shall have the tackiest yard on the street.

BTW, my friend's going to buy me the full sized leg lamp for my birthday this year since she knows how badly I want one. :)

14. Christmas Eve, my husband and I drove up to my stepdaughter's

house in Dundalk, Maryland. Dundalk is an old blue-collar area of Baltimore with row houses primarily. As we drove to her house we saw lots of these deflated lawn ornaments. It was so sad. We aren't allowed to have them where we live because of the homeowners' association rules. My 6 year old daughter likes to see the decorations in her sister's area and she was very disappointed.

24. my favorite christmas decorations are strands of multi-colored lights

and i love the big bulbs because when it snows they become somewhat pastel with the snow on them--i adore the way they glow under a blanket of fresh snow. i also like the small multi colored light strings--especially when people use the small lights to outline windows--always makes me think of old fashioned christmas candy houses.

inflatables always look so trashy in the daytime when they are deflated. people need to leave them on 24/7 so they look right.

27. I think putting the "cane deer" into compromising positions is more creative..

One of my close friends, who is my polar opposite in terms of life, politics, and world view, is all twisted around the axle about kids rearranging his illuminated deer. I wish I had pictures not only of the "arrangements" but of his face when seeing them. From his descriptions, these kids are pretty creative. :rofl:
