In an unusual move, Leahy prohibited Sabin from reading an opening statement, saying Sabin had failed to submit his remarks to the committee by an evening deadline on Monday.

Sabin was openly agitated, at one point complaining about the prohibition and frequently answering Leahy's questions pointedly, or with oblique responses.

Leahy asked a series of questions: Does the department support Leahy's war profiteering bill? How many prosecutions are in the pipe? How many full-time lawyers does the department have working on contracting fraud?

Sabin answered none of them directly.

"I'm not playing games here," Leahy said. "I'm worried it's taken a long time on some of these cases."

The 110th Congress needs to get impeachment on the table, and quickly. They are Constitutionally bound to do this when they uncover high crimes and misdemeanors.

I wouldn't think they'd have to dig very deep in the no-bid contracts fiasco to find something.

connections and all. Maybe he actually had to pay $140,000 for a boat that you or I would pay two or three times as much for. These Repubs have all their angles figured. They know how to put $1.00 in the church kitty and get back $5.00 in goods or services (or sometimes cash) the next day.

8. I agree that this is as disgraceful as it gets

but I don't think it can, at this point, support the weight of impeachment. But I really want to see some consequences here. I know it doesn't get people as worked up as some other issues, but it's disgusting and outrageous.

10. There is most likely lots of criminal wrong doing...

in most every federal agency, at least in terms of contracting. As fucked up as this seems, other federal agencies actually contract their contracting officers out to the DOD, and collect the overhead. What isn't clear to me is, what do they do with that overhead? We need some whistleblowers, perhaps Waxman can get to the bottom of this eventually. It would blow the lid off this country if it all came to light I think.


All of this was in place well before 9/11, so it was either a setup or an incredible gift that fell into their laps.
