George P. Bush selected for Navy Reserves

http://www.kten.com/Global/story.asp?S=6262677

FORT WORTH, Texas A Navy spokesman says George P- Bush has been selected as one of 15 prospective ensigns for the Navy Reserves intelligence unit.

The 30-year-old University of Texas law school graduate is the son of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and nephew of President Bush.

Lieutenant Commander Bill Schroeder of the Navy Reserve Intelligence Command in Fort Worth says intelligence officers collect and analyze information and provide guidance to help war fighters make decisions critical on the battlefield

He says Bush won't receive any special treatment.

(Right, just like his uncle) :eyes:

1. A Young Republican
An Old Criminal Republican in training. People in that field have to keep their noses incredibly clean. Strange that a law school grad would have to supplement his income.

6. BOSSHOG, glad you're here, any insight on this?
does this unit have any history of being a dumping ground for the privileged and favored? What's the angle here?

7. In my limited exposure to these guys
I didn't detect that. They work in windowless spaces with cypher locks on very thick doors. Usually traveling in pairs. They are nerdy almost robotic types. You won't find these Sailors on liberty abusing alcohol and chasing women. Such activity would jeopardize their security clearances. I didn't like to be around them. In staff meetings they'd be downright mechanical.

Its telling that a bush can get the clearance required for admission into this closed society but a homosexual cannot.

The privileged and favored are usually used for Public Affairs or Recruiting. Montel Williams was a royal pain in the ass prima donna as a Naval Reserve Officer but David Robinson was a pleasure to deal with.

I don't believe Ensign Bush will be too much of a threat to national security. I hope I'm right.

14. Why the Dislike
Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 10:07 AM by erpowers
Why do you not like the intelligence people? Is it that they are mechanical? It seems like you were in the Navy so what did you do? Can you tell me what the staff meetings were like? Mainly, what did you do in the staff meetings? I can figure you talked about issues, but I am just wondering what issues and how the issues were talked about? Did you enjoy your time in the military? Where you an enlisted member or an officer?

18. I retired
as a Chief Petty Officer. I loved the Navy. Loved My Sailors. Actually Loved the Intel guys. They were just a little wierd and involved themselves in a very limited manner in social affairs outside of work. I was on a couple of Admiral Staffs and you (or someone from your department) would have to brief the Admiral regularly (usually once a week, more frequently if needed) on issues concerning your department. Short, brief, to the point. While I was in Security and Training, on a staff you spend time as a bureaucrat, overseeing manpower, training, human resources, comptroller services, pay, recruiting, retirement to subordinate commands. Similar staffs serve other communities (CB's, Air Commands). It depended on the demeanor of the Admiral as to how the meetings were conducted. Some wanted no bullshit, get to the point asap and move on. One in particular I remember was more personal, wanted to chat with all of us about our families and such. Very time consuming. I wouldn't say I disliked the intel guys. They just weren't beer swilling, skirt chasing cracker jacks. (And for a good reason.) I've been retired almost five years but I still keep in touch with many of my old shipmates and many of my Sailors who are still on active duty. Some even email me for advice but I think thats their version of visiting the old guy in the nursing home.

9. Also Surprised
I am surprised that he did not just do Navy JAG. I wonder if he just wants to do something different, or if this is him preparing to run for office. I have heard that in her book Kitty Kelly wrote that the Bush family was grooming George P. Bush for at least a Senate run. I would think he of all people would not be able to run for office without the question of him not being in the military during the Iraq War coming up. So I am just curious why he decided to go intelligence.

and "under the radar" for a few years. Gets him some "military" cred behind closed doors.

2. He's obviously being groomed for public office.
And of course, no one believes that "he won't receive any special treatment" crap. If your uncle just happens to be the Commander-in-Chief, it's freaking impossible to be treated as just another ensign.

IIRC, that's the same Bush that was all over the media for a couple of days trying to bolster Uncle W's approval ratings.

12. Following this press release he'll be photographed at
his induction ceremony then won't report for duty but will later be honorably discharged with his very thin file destroyed. Bailing out on one's unit is a Bush Crime Family tradition.

23. You have something against Naval Reservists?
There are, what, 130,000 Naval reservists? Are you suggesting that they all recevied special treatment and are in just because they're nice cushy postions? Bear in mind, I ran into both Navy and Coast Guard reservists in Iraq.

My understanding, albeit second-hand, is that for those interested in intel work, the Navy's intel branch is quite a fascinating group: It focuses on different areas than the Army or Air Force.

At any rate, he's in, and the job obviously needs doing otherwise the Navy wouldn't have the position to fill. Let's see how he does.

26. My Uncle was Navy Secret Service
as well as Army secret service (He supplied spec ops groups with supplies for missions. He was referred to as "Pack-Man". There's also a few stories I could tell about his involvement with a nuclear missile silo scare but that might take awhile), so no I don't have anything specifically against the Navy. But considering the numerous other positions he could've taken to see some front line action in support of his Uncle's war...Yeah, this is a cop out. He might as well be a Juggler Reservist.

29. Maybe he just likes the idea of the job?
Does anyone have any idea where his personal interests lie? Maybe he's got a thing for mathematics, and wants to get into decryption/cypher-related items, which I believe is a Naval Intel speciality, is it not? Or maybe he's a naval technology nut and wants to be in the loop on the latest Chinese naval vessels or something. I'm not going to deprive a guy the benefit of the doubt just because of who his uncle is. Why should he chose what he does just to support his uncle? I know I wouldn't. Heck, he said he went Navy to follow Grand-dad whose Naval service was pretty decent, which is probably more likely than following Uncle George.

It was George P. who crashed his SUV into his girlfriends house. The other son got caught with his pants down in the back of a car or in a car.

Bush heir to the throne. It was just a matter of time that they made their first big move with him. The BFEE will go on.......

28. Prepare to be Even More Upset
For those of you who are already upset at the news that George P. Bush will be joining the Navy Reserve perpare to get even more upset. If you look up George P. at wikipedia you will see a paragraph that claims to give the reasons for Bush's joining the military. Bush claims that he was inspired to join the military when he went to a Ship naming ceremony in honor of his grandfather. Also, Bush reportly said that the death of Pat Tillman was a "wake-up call". Maybe he is telling the truth, but at first sight it seem that he is saying it just to sound good.

On a note that is a little off the subject I was surprised at how much George P. now looks like his father. He is just a tan version of his father. A few years ago I thought he looked farely different from his father. Now he looks just like him.
