Reduced sentence in works for Abramoff
BY JAY WEAVER

Former Republican super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff, sentenced to almost six years in prison for his fraudulent purchase of a South Florida gambling fleet, can receive a reduced sentence if he continues to assist prosecutors in a far-reaching Washington public corruption probe, federal officials said Wednesday.

The U.S. attorney's office in Miami filed the paperwork seeking to reduce Abramoff's 70-month prison term stemming from the SunCruz Casinos case, but did not specify any time off his sentence.

Instead, prosecutors asked U.S. District Judge Paul Huck to delay that decision until a hearing is held to weigh Abramoff's value as a witness in the Washington influence-peddling investigation.

...............

''Some of the information provided by the defendant to the government within one year of the sentencing did not become useful to the government until recently because it concerns the investigation of others outside the Southern District of Florida,'' prosecutor Paul Schwartz wrote in his filing.

8. He is not just a patsy
He singlehandedly instigated a Crime spree involving the highest positions in the land. He is not in any way a patsy. He is a chickenshit who once did the deeds now turns on his compatriots to get out of being accountable for his crimes. While I am glad he is such a chickenshit and has indeed turned on his fellow crooks I don't wish for him to get away with his crooked ways. I agree though that his time should be cut for cooperation with the DA but I would not wish for him to escape entirely...He is the kind of scum the laws were created for..

9. I wish , as part of the deal...
they would require him to cooperate, with some of the people over at Huffington Post. They would dig out of Abramoff much more useful info.

If I was the judge; I would reduce his time to two months time -- but in that two months time, he has to fully cooperate with the Huffington Post.

6. In light of the purge, how can we trust any U.S. attorney?
Who's to say that this US Attorney isn't pretending to get co-operation from Abramoff just to reduce his sentence and then OOPS, there's not enough evidence to go forward. Sorry everyone. We tried. Jack tried. We'll see you around.
