Do you think Blago made the Burris appointment as an attempt at ..... |
|
...... responsibility? Or as a way to make it impossible to not to seat him without charges of racism?
I think Blago was craven in his choice. I think he is a disgusting man who is out for himself and himself alone. I think he chose this man at this time to set a land mine for those opposing him. I think he purposely injected race into the issue.
I also think Burris ought to be seated.

1. I am in total agreement |
|
Burris is, whatever Blago's motivations, a good choice. And it's unlikely that Blago was motivated by anything but naked self interest.

2. I've read several sources that suggest Blago did this |

as a self-serving gesture. He's thinking long term about potential jurors who might be judging his case.

3. Seems like Reid made it impossible for Blago to sell the seat |
|
Burris seems like a choice that would help others interested in running to raise money and get an organization together to make the run in two years.
Burris just looks like the kind of guy that's right for the moment. I don't know how he can help Blago from what he's allegedly done in the past. For now, "win-win" doesn't bother me. From what I hear from my Illinois friends, a special statewide election right now is just too costly.
Burris himself certainly isn't controversial and couldn't hurt the Dems in general. Seems kiind of low key to me.

4. I think Blago did it merely as a "fuck you" to those who seek to impeach him. |
|
He's an asshole that way.;)

5. I think it all has to do with Blogo and keeping him out of a cell. |
|
If he can respond to the charge of "trying to sell that Senate seat" by saying that he named a squeeky clean candidate who has no dirty connections to anyone, it helps save HIS butt!

8. How do we know he has no dirty connections to anyone? |
|
I think anyone that Blago appoints is blemished by Blago's Character. Remember people are judged by those they associate with..

9. How do we know? From everything I've heard, Burris has NO association with |
|
Blogo. I know every reporter is continuing to look, but nothing has been found so far.

6. I think it would have been harder to not seat Burris if they wouldn't have had Rush go up and |
|
inject lynching into the discussion. I think that crap undercut the legitimacy of the appointment.
I was hoping for a straight-up, serious press conference which would have made it hard to undermine Burris as the legitimate appointee but they turned it into a circus and undercut themselves in the process. Why they hell did they cut themselves off at the knees? Don't answer that. I know. We are talking about Blago after all.

7. I agree with you about Rush's comments. Ill timed and ill conceived and unhelpful. |

10. I think the fact that Burris accepted the appointment throws his judgment into question. |
|
And the race issue is a total red herring IMHO.
