Borrowed from another post by DUer Tiptoe:
The strategy for achieving the goals of these wings of the current Republicans in charge is also radical. They want to effectively abolish the two party system. They are in fact well on the way to accomplishing that. Here is Grover Norquist again, one of the most powerful of the power brokers in a powerful party: “One of the steps for getting there is a permanent Republican government, in the sense of fifty-five Republican senators and a thirty-vote margin in the House and a Republican President for twenty years in a row. That’s when you can do to the left what the left did to us in the thirties and the forties.”
Grover Norquist, on how to accomplish the one-party rule
Norquist tips his hat here on how he really sees the world. According to his worldview, the Democratic dominance of Congress and the Presidency wasn't really about political ideas, or representation of the people. No, it was because the Democratic party really wanted to stick it to the Repigs. Forget Teapot Dome, forget the Depression under a Repig president, forget the attempted coup stymied by Gen Butler - it was all about how the Democrats tried to make a one-party state, so the Repigs are justified in trying to do so now. "We" did it to "them" so the Repigs should be able to do it too.
Spoiled, self-absorbed, vain, narcissistic prick Norquist. He can't even see US history outside the filter of thinking he deserves to be sucked up to.
