A little levity, mods. What's everybody doing, tonight?
Just curious. Me? Well, the Happy Iowan and I either dust off the old LP's or watch Grease or Diner. Tonight, not a clue. Alot of reflecting on a crazy 08. An endless winter, catastrophic floods in June, losing four of our beloved cats. On the plus side: the Iowa Caucuses, a helluva election and a new member to the family. I am extremely optimistic for 09 despite the economy and other ills, too numerous to mention. I think President Obama will become one for the ages, despite the enormity of his task. So we will toast a tumultuous '08, a hopeful '09 and our friends at Democratic Underground.
Cheers and Happy New Year!!

2. Cozy night in
I'm making home made chicken curry, there's some nice Aussie Chardonnay, chilling in the fridge, and hot fudge on peppermint ice cream and brownies, for afters. Fire in the fireplace and, no doubt, I'll be falling asleep, in front of the tv, before midnight.

3. My wife and I are going to her Mother's house,
where I'm cooking up some pork chops and other stuff. We'll sit around for a while, then come home. Around midnight, my nutsy neighbors will shoot off many, many fireworks, and that will scare the cats.

Tomorrow will be another day...

6. Freezing. Taking pictures. Drinking some bubbly in a bit to toast the new year.
Did I mention I was freezing? Ice storm coming through...black ice on the roads. I'm leaning out the balcony doors (like an idiot) to snap pictures of the fireworks that have been going on since 6 PM here. Fireworks that reach such a pitch that the night sky is filled with smoke and sparkly explosions. The closer to midnight the more fireworks.

Got a new camera..so I'm excited about the pictures.

17. My parents had a dog that would go apeshit during fireworks or thunder.
He would tear up a door to get in.

Luckily, my dogs don't seem to be bothered.

29. Oh man, I forgot about that!
I'm going to have to cuddle with them in my room until the fireworks are over! One of mine (see sig) has been whining and trying to crawl into my lap for the past two hours...it's as if he knows they're coming.

9. Baking a Bday cake with my kids
...you see, I AM Baby New Year (circa 1970)

so this year as I hit 39 (at 15 seconds after midnight, no less) I will be either sleeping or watching Rachel Maddow -
Alone with my herb and my sparkling cider...praying for Peace on Earth and Prosperity in my own life as well as for my Country.

This coming year holds great promise, for where else can we go but upwards? ...and I am just hanging on by a thread until Inauguration...I think I will celebrate THAT day more heartily for sure!!!

11. Champahnia with Hubby and
our dog Kizzie, 2 cats, (and four 6 week old kittens. -- never adopt a stray cat before you find out if she is pregnant! :D )

Ww will probably watch the goings on in NYC on the TV machine. I moved to Atlanta 3 years ago, and I always miss NY this time of year.

Kizzie, our beagle mix, will no doubt be beside herself with the fireworks. We will be celebrating the end of 8 long years, and the brightness of a hopeful future.

in Town Square from 6:00 to 8:00. Ice skating, ice sculptures, fireworks and lots of happy people. It's pretty chilly here -- 0 now at 1:00 p.m., but we'll bundle up and have a good time. After that, we'll come home, drink some champagne, and wait for midnight.

23. Birthday party for a friend...
then a costume party. My husband and his buddies are wearing their Lucha Libre masks with suits (?). I have no clue what I´m going to be. Lois Lane, I think. I'm amazed the spousal unit is even going out-he hates New Years (amateur night, as he calls it). Luckily, the second party is around the corner, so no driving after 10pm.

I'm celebrating the end of a truly horrible year for the planet and millions of people. Myself, I've been blessed...so far.
Happy New Year, from Norman, OK!
