Dumbass ran a story that he didn't confirm with a second source. This scoop would have put them on the map if he'd been right. He's apologizing, but in the click of one mouse, this seemingly slick, high tech, and well funded internet news venue is a joke.

You can only get away with such unreliable and unprofessional work if you're funded by Scaife, folks.

6. CNN was pretty stupid to use them as a source
Don't they have their own reporters and fact checkers?

4. Isn't this the upstart news agency founded by two former WAPO writers?.
They just launched it about a month or two ago amid much fanfare, what idiots, this will probably sink them.

8. Hah! Here's a great quote from their hype machine!
media.nationalreview.com/post/?q=ODE3YmI1M2Q2NmVlZjBjZjgyYjIxN2Q2ZTI3ZjVmZTA=

Googled 'em and found this NRO fluff story on Politico.com:

Albritton Communications will launch its much-anticipated, multi-media political news source today. The Politico and Politico.com will use a multi-pronged approach — with content on its Web site, in its newspaper and on News Channel 8 — that the company hopes will set it apart in an already crowded field.

“People want their news faster and more conversationally,” said Jim VandeHei, Politico’s executive editor. “Waiting for a story that breaks at 10 a.m. and writing for the next day’s paper is over.

Edwards Campaign to Continue

Getting It Wrong

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0307/Getting_It_Wrong.html#comments

A single, confident source close to John Edwards told me this morning that Edwards
was "suspending his campaign," and I posted it to the blog at 11:06 this morning.

My source, and I, were wrong.

The source, whose anonymity I agreed to respect, spoke of the kind of grim prognosis Elizabeth
Edwards herself just described hearing before a second round of tests came back. I trusted the
source, somebody I've known for several years, and who has always been reliable.

And with less than an hour before Edwards was to announce, I unwisely wrote the item without
getting a second source.

When the campaign pushed back harder than I'd expected, I added that information to the original
item, but that doesn't undo the damage.

My apologies to our readers for passing on bad information.

7. I recall when Huffingtonpost started up . . .
And the theme was that it was a waste of electrons, the most embarrassing misuse of the Internet in mankind's history, and a personal defeat for Arianna that would inevitably lead to her flinging herself into the Pacific in a deranged effort to expiate her shame.

And instead, she continued publishing the (mostly) truth, and now the site is one of the most respected.

Unlike Drudge, which is still an eye-bleedingly-ugly sludgefest, chasing snipes, will-o'-the-wisps, and swamp gas, and regularly embarassing its proponents.

Which way will politico go?

16. check out their staff page
It's a big operation, with some big names. But Mike Allen (the political reporter) is still Mike Allen. Easily duped, as we all know by his infatuation with Bush.
