I absolutely COULD NOT make a choice between Helen Mirren's characterization of Queen Elizabeth or Judi Dench's portrayal of a (slightly off-centered  ) obbsessive woman in "Notes on a Scandal". Both are excellent.
You?

Helen Mirren does an impeccable job of playing Queen Elizabeth, but I'm loving Dame Judi's vampiric spinster. That movie stayed with me for a while.

I've seen "Notes" twice - with different friends - the second time we had a choice between "The Queen" and "Notes" as well as "The Painted Veil" (which I haven't seen) - she wanted to see any of them - but I steered her toward "Notes". Maybe that's my Oscar pick, after all?
