Niether Saint Gipper nor either of his two prophets would be fit to stand in the same room with Ike, even if they were all alive today. It was not always like it is today. Ike put the interests of Americans first. He was a Republican who was one of us, but just happened to be in that other political party that had a few slightly different objectives. Today's publicans have primary allegiance to their benefactors, their ideologies, and their political party.

Ike was a real uniter, not a divider.
