Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 01:42 PM by johnnie
"FOX News is reporting that remaining charges against three Duke University lacrosse players originally indicted for rape may be dropped sometime within the next few days."

Need a link that the source isn't fox.

On edit: Put quotes on headline.

5. I thought that they were all dropped a while ago
Good though. I saw a 60 minutes piece about this that made me have all sorts of doubt about her claim.

6. As Lex pointed out, it should have been additional charges dropped
I just copied the headline. It seems they were facing a few other charges and those are the ones reportedly being dropped.

9. The charges that remain--sexual assault and kidnapping--are just as
serious, and potential sentences could put them in jail for decades.

The real crime is that this isn't over yet.

7. Good.
Now, to where do those guys apply to get their reputations back?

Oh, that's right - in the era of sensationalist journalism, trial-by-media, and guilty-until-proven-innocent, they don't. They're fucked. Any time someone Googles their names they'll be associated with a rape that they never committed.

10. Let the lawsuits begin....
Whos on the docket? The accuser, the idiot DA, Duke University, the bunch of profs who put out the statement denouncing the "rapists". Get the popcorn and sit back.

11. Well, it's about time those other charges were dropped
I hope that the men accused sue the hell out of the accuser, Duke and the DA.

13. It's not over yet, unfortunately. See my post below.
But I agree with you -- a lawsuit will be completely justified.

12. Unfortunately, the Attorney General is denying that story.
http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=triangle&id=5137154

Today FOX News is reporting sources close to the case say an announcement to dismiss charges against all three former players will be made Friday. However, Attorney General Roy Cooper's office is refuting that claim.

"We don't expect to make an announcement tomorrow," said Spokeswoman Noelle Talley. "Our review of the case, including reviewing documents and conducting interviews, is continuing."

SNIP

Rape charges against Collin Finnerty, Reade Seligmann and David Evans were dropped in December 2006 after the accuser told an investigator she could no longer recall being raped as defined by state law. All three defendants still face kidnapping and sexual assault charges. Their attorneys maintain their innocence citing a lack of DNA evidence and conflicting versions of the accuser's story.

17. You didn't jump the gun -- you just linked to a story that's all over
the media today.

The case should be over by now. It's a travesty that it's still going on, IMO.
