CNN Breaking: Ground offensive underway in Gaza...
Edited on Sat Jan-03-09 02:31 PM by Dennis Donovan
Correspondent Paula Hancocks reporting. Here we go...:(

CNNI has gone live on CNN/US - MUCH better coverage than before (i.e. Fair). On edit: Scratch that; CNN is back to local/US coverage as soon as CNNI started interviewing a Palestinian. Can't have that now, can we?

5. They probably figure they can take Gaza completely, unlike with Lebanon.
Sadly, I believe this may be a huge military mistake on the aprt of Israel. No nation will condone what they are doing with the possible exception of Bush making a supporting statement. I doubt seriously if the IDF will be any better capable of dealing with guerilla warfare in Gaza than they were able to deal with it in Lebanon.

19. Just what I heard on CCNI
Not sure if it is factual. They were reporting the IDF is not looking to "take" Gaza, learning from Lebanon crisis. Instead they are focusing on strikes at key targets. Hard fighting but short duration.

28. Foolish, foolish move
They'll be sitting ducks for guerilla activity once they take the positions. Without a full blown plan for total occupation, this move is doomed to failure.

Lots of IDF will be killed in the long run. IEDs, RPGs, and the larger rockets Hamas already has will insure that.

The fools were suckered in. Now, they'll be pariahs in the world and will fail to accomplish anything meaningful.

12. Hit another mosque?
So if you take an arms silo and put a Koran in it, does it become a mosque?

It's just a building and if it's used for terror, it's not holy.

26. Secondary explosions
You do not get secondary explosions when one bomb goes in on a particular building, If that building is used to hide arms it is a lagitimate target.

27. What if you drop a bomb on, say, propane container? It it then a "lagitimate" target since it explod
How about if you drop a bomb in a market, and the cars there explode? I guess that market is then "lagitimate" since there was a secondary explosion.

There is no way that civilians aren't targets in an area as small as Gaza.

That's just to cover their asses so they can say everyone was warned.

Israel just keeps pushing it, and pushing it, and pushing it...

29. Jesus. Just turned on the TV and this was the first thing I saw.
Here we go, again... ;(

MSNBC actually broke away from their very important documentary on decades-old murders to report this... :eyes:

Defense Minister Barak is speaking, saying they're not "war hungry." Then why do this now?! Over 300 Palestinian civilians have already been killed, compared to five Israelis, last I knew. Gaza is so densely populated, was already was suffering from a lack of food, clean water and medical supplies. This is going to be another bloodbath, like shooting fish in a barrel. ;(

33. Apparently they're making an exception for a bloodbath... ;(
Yesterday I tuned in, hoping to learn the latest on this, but they were showing a biography of Charlie Manson. Very relevant to the crises in the world right now... :eyes:

So I've been watching CNN. Yesterday Rick "please taze me, bro" Sanchez covered this for most of his broadcast. He had on the extremely eloquent Zbigniew Brzezinski who predicted the outcome of the Iraq war and was excellent on this. Why doesn't the US bring him in?! Oh, right, wrong party, like Carter and Clinton. What's Bush* doing? Clearing brush while Gaza burns?! :grr:

Rhi ;(

And when Brzezinski was asked what Obama should be doing, he very correctly said that the US can only have one president at a time. With this getting worse by the moment, how many more innocent lives will be lost before January 20th?! ;(

In 16 days, half the population of Gaza could be wiped out, the way things are going... ;(

And it's dark there now. Most don't even have electricity. I saw footage yesterday of small children screaming in the dark... ;(

from the other war-ish coverage the likes of The GE War Weaponary Network and the (C)AN we sell you a (N)EW war (N)OW network began pimping to American citizens.

I honestly felt sick to my stomach and so did my husband. It's like some God awful flashback to the Iraqi War all over again.
