What branch of government does the "Administration" belong to?
all this parsing of words and claiming "I didn't do it" makes me ask this.

Solly Mack has a post with some of the e-mails detailing the "Plan"-

One of the planning pages clearly states that the answer to the fired Judges asking
"Who is responsible for my termination?"(paraphrase) is the ADMINISTRATION.

Yet tony snow claims the issue began with the DOJ. Who's not following the script?

Could someone explain this to me in plain english?

thanks-
blu

2. It's all part of the executive branch
DOJ is part of the executive branch, too.

It all comes down to Bush and his people, no matter what sort of obfuscation they are trying to spread.

4. Executive, unless it is an independent agency.

In that case it would be a hybrid of branches.

Federal judges can't be fired. Removal requires impeachment or death. There are a limited catagory of so-called "Article I" courts that can be fired for cause. They include the U.S. Tax Court, the Bankruptcy Court and INS administrative judges.

DOJ is the definition of an executive agency.

5. All branches of government belong to me.
This is really simple - who pays their salary, who pays their utilities, etc. I/we do. I/we want answers. As a taxpayer I/we am/are entitled.

And yes, in response to Snow, let's have a show trial. The WH and DOJ need to show they have done nothing wrong. Why is that a problem?

6. OMG! You just broke it down to it's simplest talking point / framing point
Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 02:25 PM by Ghost in the Machine
that it could be taken down to, and everyone should be able to clearly understand it! Did you realize this?

"And yes, in response to Snow, let's have a show trial. The WH and DOJ need to show they have done nothing wrong. Why is that a problem?" (emphasis mine)

This should be the standard answer from here on out. Yes, it's a show trial. Show us you have nothing to hide and no reason to fear being under oath.

I need to make a banner or graphic with your saying ..... if that's ok.

8. That's how I feel. So I called up bush's secretary at the White House
switchboard and told her to tell bush to send his minions on up to Capitol Hill and have them testify under oath, in public.

Have you provided him with direction yet? Use the comment line.

7. thanks all! duh, silly me, I thought 'justice' was part of the Judicial
branch-

So when snow tries to claim that the WH had nothing to do with the 'plan'- and then says it was the DOJ, that's like saying "My family had nothing to do with it, it was my Daughter that came up with the idea!"....?....!....?...

guess i must be slow- :silly:

Thanks for the help

The American constitutional system includes a notion known as the Separation of Powers. In this system, several branches of government are created and power is shared between them. At the same time, the powers of one branch can be challenged by another branch. This is what the system of checks and balances is all about.

There are three branches in the United States government as established by the Constitution. First, the Legislative branch makes the law. Second, the Executive branch executes the law. Last, the Judicial branch interprets the law. Each branch has an effect on the other.

Legislative Branch

Checks on the Executive
Impeachment power (House)
Trial of impeachments (Senate)
Selection of the President (House) and Vice President (Senate) in the case of no majority of electoral votes
May override Presidential vetoes
Senate approves departmental appointments
Senate approves treaties and ambassadors
Approval of replacement Vice President
Power to declare war
Power to enact taxes and allocate funds
President must, from time-to-time, deliver a State of the Union address
Checks on the Judiciary
Senate approves federal judges
Impeachment power (House)
Trial of impeachments (Senate)
Power to initiate constitutional amendments
Power to set courts inferior to the Supreme Court
Power to set jurisdiction of courts
Power to alter the size of the Supreme Court
Checks on the Legislature - because it is bicameral, the Legislative branch has a degree of self-checking.
Bills must be passed by both houses of Congress
House must originate revenue bills
Neither house may adjourn for more than three days without the consent of the other house
All journals are to be published

Executive Branch

Checks on the Legislature
Veto power
Vice President is President of the Senate
Commander in chief of the military
Recess appointments
Emergency calling into session of one or both houses of Congress
May force adjournment when both houses cannot agree on adjournment
Compensation cannot be diminished
Checks on the Judiciary
Power to appoint judges
Pardon power

Checks on the Executive
Vice President and Cabinet can vote that the President is unable to discharge his duties

Judicial Branch

Checks on the Legislature
Judicial review
Seats are held on good behavior
Compensation cannot be diminished
Checks on the Executive
Judicial review
Chief Justice sits as President of the Senate during presidential impeachment
