Worst idea of 2008
Edited on Sun Jan-04-09 01:06 PM by cbc5g
Is the same as it's been every year since it's inception in the early 20th century. Prohibition. It didn't work with alcohol and it isn't working with drugs. The war on drugs has provided the greatest transfer of wealth to drug lords and drug gangs, especially in inner cities, where thugs make pretty much unlimited amounts of money and buy up guns and ammo and reek havok on our society. The drug war has caused and continues to cause untold heartache and pain all across the world. And to top it off the only politicians with the courage to call it what it is are Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul. Every time you hear about drug gangs on the border or youths being killed over drugs or random shootings in neighborhoods, you can thank the drug war. It's the worst idea and sadly those who want legalization are ostracized as being far left or far right or hippies living in their moms basement. When will we have an FDR with the courage to take on such shitty legislation that has done far...far more harm than good?

1. It makes money.
The prison system is private...and brutal.

The number of incarcerated affects the bottom line, and that allows the industry to lobby for longer and stiffer sentences, which......

2. Regulate it and tax the hell out of it.
Put violent offenders in jail and not traffic stop nickle-baggers.

8. Yep should be just like alcohol
The drug laws are entirely racist and have led to the highest drug usage rates and highest incarceration rates in the world, right here in the U.S. It should be taken on as an economic issue, not a rights issue, since people care more about their pocketbooks. My main reason for wanting legalization is because it has created drug gangs that have terrorized America. The demand is high for drugs and they supply it. I'd rather have Budweiser sell then Al Capone, for example.

9. Same laws as liquor, except an 18 year old age limit.
For that matter, lower the drinking age as well. Pretty stupid that you can go die in Monkeyboy's war but you can't buy a beer.

3. No one has the moral courage to take on bad laws
No one has the moral courage to change bad laws, no matter what real law enforcement professionals say. And the law enforcement community is way too full of individuals - such as Joe Arpaio - who see the badge and the gun as a means to an end, mainly being the fulfillment of their own psychotic urges.

4. I thought the worst idea of 2008 was "Vice-President Palin."
Leading to "President Palin" after President McCain dies in his sleep.
