Thank you DU admins and Mods for relaxing I/P rules
The conversations have been heated and interesting shedding light in both sides of the story.

4. piffle and hyperbole.
Although DUers are behaving pretty well during the current crisis, that hasn't always been true. There's a reason for the structured I/P forum: The work entailed when so many people devolve into spewers of hate is hard for the mods to keep up with.

5. what exactly has changed?
I just don't think they can keep up with all the threads, so some are not being exported to the I/P dungeon. If there's been an actual change in the moderation policy, then GREAT. It's fucking shameful that the I/P discussion rules are different. There is PLENTY of hate and bile in other topic discussions, too, and those topics aren't shoved into a little corner with a bunch of useless restrictions.

6. I have noticed also and thank you. What I have noticed is...
topics get moved still, but rather than immediately locking due to having a pict or not being based on an article from a reputable source, they get combined with a like topic that does comply with I/P forum OP rules.

Some still get locked, but I have noticed this happening more. Thank you mods. It is a mess and we need to be able to talk about it and read about it and I appreciate your doing what you have done to keep topics open and civil.

8. Du is getting very difficult to read lately
I didn't have a dog in this I/P thing, but I'm am noticing that more and more in the public are casting off the spin and propaganda of MSM in this area.

But, the thread containing the Raw Story video should be seen here and every else in the world as well as any video (or articles) on the opposite side that may justify or explain or clarify.

How can you rationally discuss world events if the events are censored and/or cleansed?

This looks like a another DU censorship based on how the right wing will spin the left, and cave in to the multiple dis-ruptors dispatched AROUND THE WEB to stifle legitimate discussion.

The right wing still controls progressive discussion, even here at DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND.

Sad.... so very sad

10. Figuring out ways to comply with the rules.
Post it in an open thread rather than in an OP. We shall see if it gets deleted.

Then there is this Moderator's open thread to discuss and avoid "have you stopped beating your wife" questions:

12. That's the thread I was talking about that linked to Raw Story video
It is sinful that important information is suppressed.

This suppression appear to be based on convoluted rules.

These appear to be based on how honest discussion will be skewed by idiots whose only purpose for coming here is to disrupt and misinform.

DU used to be fun and informative, now it appears to be sorta "Let's hold conversation in manner that right won't make us look bad.

I call it the Harry Reid syndrome. Please the right no matter how they savage you.

11. What We Are Doing, Ma'am, is What we Did During The Fighting In 2006
Edited on Sun Jan-04-09 03:08 PM by The Magistrate
When in fairly quick succession there was an Israeli advance into Gaza, followed by the war in Lebanon.

Because of the scale and newsworthiness of the events, discussion of the current news is allowed in the upper forums. When these discussions, as they sometimes do, veer into general slanging about the entire Israel v. Palestine matter, they will be moved down to the I/P forum. Since fresh developments and posts will continue, this does not prevent discussion of the current events in the upper forums. Since discussion of this topic frequently becomes heated, we do keep an eye out for imflammatory statements, and comments that are simply flame-bait are removed, in the hopes of keeping the discussion on track. If it develops that a thread is simply over-run with flame-bait comments, we will lock it, or move it down to the I/P forum. On occasion, the O.P. starting a thread is itself flame-bait, and when that happens, it will be locked or removed.

In the I/P forum, a particular set of rules has been in place for many years. These rules are not really 'seperate', they are more or less codification of how the normal rules of the forum will be applied in detail in relation to this topic, which has proved particularly troublesome in the past. I would recommend persons who want to discuss this in the upper forum venture down to that topic forum and read the rules there.

16. Most will agree that DU moderators are phenominal
Edited on Sun Jan-04-09 05:13 PM by Roy
But, your very well explanation of DU policy spells out to disruptors that they only need to only basically disrupt and artfully start a flame war to get a thread banished or locked.

They never start threads. They only enter threads and post never spelling out their positions, butgive one or two sentence reply name calling, accusing posters of not knowing facts or history of given topic without offering either facts or their version of correct history.

And before you know it the thread is useless, and they are off to destroy another thread.

They offer no rational discussion, but they are allowed to stay and disrupt so long as they disrupt politely.

Disrupting is disrupting whether it is polite or should make no difference.

Ban'em all, DU is not public property

Skinner should be the dictator and the definition of disruption and flame bait should be in his eyes only and not some rigid written policy that allow people to disrupt by staying just this side of some arbitrary line.

EDIT: spelling in title

If Skinner should be the dictator, then why are you characterizing Skinner's rules as "some arbitrary line"?

21. Because he doesn't act the part of a dictator...
and attempt to allow discourse to include diverse opinions.

Which results in disruptors ruining threads by staying just on this side of the rules.

Results... fed up rioters admonished or banned while the inciters are left to have a good laugh and incite some more.

18. I'm curious
as to why maps are being deleted.

It's important people understand the geography of the region and how the landscape and demographics have changed over the years.

To provide context folks need to know the region, the resources involved and whose mutual interests are
being accented in these geopolitical "games."

19. In 'The Bad Old Days', Sir, Before The Specialized Rules Were Set Up
There were tremendous problems with imagery in posts; simply absurd stuff.

A rule with bright lines is much easier to enforce fairly than one which calls for judgement about whether something is appropriate or not, hence the rule set by Mr. Skinner in the Spring of '02 banned all images in posts, without exception.

Links to maps are allowed in the I/P (indeed, I have seen several such myself just today), and most with any interest will follow such links.
