Watching the documentary Cinema's Exiles From Hitler
to Hollywood...I learned something very interesting. It is well known that many of the early Hollywood moguls were Jewish, with most being immigrants or children of immigrants. According to this documentary, Warner Brothers stopped exporting movies to Nazi Germany in the mid to late 1930s.Paramount and MGM continued to export movies until 1940, removing any Jewish names from the credits!

So, when people get up in arms about Internet ISPs and browsers, such as Yahoo,cow-towing to China, it seems this kind of thing has been going on since there has been a mass media. To their shame.

Marlene Dietrich worked with a Jewish exile named Ernst Lubitsch to bring people over from Germany. She had to be careful however as she had family in Germany.

1. Catholic Marlene Dietrich. I never knew what a mensch she was!
And I will never see Casablanca in the same way again.

2. I was not aware of that as well. I was also not
aware of the contribution to film made by Hitler's Exiles. Hedy Lamar, Peter Lorre, Fritz Lang, Korngold (scored the Robin Hood movie starring Errol Flynn) were all exiles from Hitler's Europe.

3. Don't you mean "Morocco"? Ingrid Bergman starred in "Casablanca".

6. Two separate things.
The Marseillaise scene in Casablanca...the people who stood up and sang with tears in their eyes...they were all exiles from Germany, France, Hungary, Poland...the lands that Hitler took over.

But Dietrich helped house and feed the fleeing Jews in her industry. The people who had made it wrote references to bring as many over as they could. Jews helping Jews I take for granted. But she was Catholic and one of the righteous.

5. It did...there was a reference to his writing a poem
for one of the exiles who lost a brother in the concentration camps. He slipped it under her door.
