How do we get our country back?
This thread inspired by this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x4765886

Which has this picture as it core .....

The question is not rhetorical. How *do* we get our country back? Those in charge have freely given it away for their personal betterment. We're left with the mess, the pain, the looming poverty, and the crushing debt.

How do we get our country back?

8. Read "Legacy of Ashes".

The CIA has never been used as was envisioned from its WWII roots.

What was intended to be - legitimately, IMO, an intelligence clearing house - became, disastrously, through both aggression and neglect by the executive branch, a covert action army.

Full disclosure: My father died disillusioned with and in service of the Agency.

also edit, punctuation fwiw.

3. Take To the Streets Is The Only Way Forward
As Thomas Jefferson is quoted as saying ..

People should not fear their government ... governments should fear their people.

Sadly, Americans have become, by and large, to complacent to do much of anything.

Which means - nothing will change.

5. 100% what you said
can't improve on that.

I wonder what it would take to get people to stand up? Tell them they can't buy the stuff they want to buy.

4. who knows.
Perhaps if the people of america as well as the last two Democratic presidential candidates in 2000 and 2004 would have fought harder instead of giving into the theft we would not be here now faced with all of this.

But we allowed this country to be divided by lies and fear and hate and we trusted what we were told and that now seems to be a huge mistake.

If we did not go along with the deregulation and outsourcing of jobs and buy into the box stores where it became , I watched the blue collr jobs vanish and since it was not my job as the white collar worker I said nothing and then they came for me and there was no one to speak for me sort of mentality we would not be here.

Yes this is all should of , would have , could have and now it's a bit late to go back in time with hopefully lessons learned.

I still don't feel people have learned because now they are to busy trying to survive the madness. They are still willing to buy into political promise and hype. We still have a media that does not dig for the truth and tell the real story.

7. I think we need to start by identifying what a political party really is and
and what a criminal organization is that messes in politics and puts on the disguise of a political party. When we do that, then we can make laws criminalizing the criminals. Okay I've got my flame retardant suit on. All the free speech DUers will be descending on me although the issue has nothing to do with free speech but protecting the citizens of this country from what appears to be international organizations of criminals with cells in our country that hide behind the skirts of the Republican Party and propagate war for fun and profit.

24. but they have more than we do
and the free market capitalist teachings of our lord and savior ronnie raygun tell us that verily greed is good! And yea verily it is a blessing unto the lord to become more wealthy. They are better than we are, are they not?

I say we round them all up and take our shit back.

11. Somehow, removing "personhood" from corporations is a good start
1. Restricting media conglomeration and unraveling the mish-mash we have now, with 5 or 6 rich idealogues owing it all

2. Real election reform...with paper ballots & people hand-counting them

3. TARIFFS on things made of parts not from the USA, and obviously for things not made here

4. Reinstating usury laws

5. Universal/national health care with NO insurance company, employer or corporate involvement

6. Union representation for ALL paycheck-people

7. Upper limits on CEO pay..tied directly to lowest paid in their employ & company profits

but one thing we could start working on right now is the voting debacle. It should be streamlined with one national system- no ?
