A home grown idiot! (updated)
Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 03:39 PM by rebel with a cause
The following opinion piece comes from our area newspaper and the writer is a man I have known (as an acquaintance, and never a close friend) since he was a teenager. I know a lot of things about him that make me not like him, but most of all he is a right wing idiot that has risen in the media here because of his "views". Well, it seems that mr. muir now feels the invasion of Iraq might have been a mistake, but his reason why is something far afield from what we believe. Feel free to tell him what you think of him, if you want. I pushed the wrong button, so editing to put in information:

I am no longer a believer

Earlier this week, the war in Iraq lumbered into its fifth year, with President Bush asking for more time and more troops for his new battle plan.

When the U.S. invaded Iraq in March 2003, I supported the war from the very beginning and wrote about it in this space. And during the past four years I've maintained that support even when it was not popular.

<snip>

I argued against the theory that "Young Bush" was somehow trying to succeed in taking down Saddam and Baghdad because "Old Bush" failed during the 1992 Gulf War. I've also bought into "shock and awe," a crumbling statue of Saddam, a president in a flight jacket proclaiming "mission accomplished" and the philosophy that a democratic and stable Iraq would make the Middle East a safer place. I jumped on the bandwagon of "stay the course" and "be vigilant" and defended the U.S. occupation of Iraq as an extension of the war on terror.

<snip>

But when talking about making this country safer, I now believe we would make our nation safer by vigilantly protecting our own borders. I've thought often during the past few months that perhaps this country would be better served and a safer place to live if some of the 140,000 troops in Iraq were instead stationed on the U.S.-Mexico border stopping the steady stream of illegal aliens into this country. Not mentioning the billions of dollars of strain on our economy caused by illegal aliens, how long before a dirty bomb comes into the U.S. via Arizona or Texas?

3. Senior moment.
Push post button instead of spell check. Only I would do this when I am talking about someone else being an idiot. :rofl:
