I teaches my four year old how to treat a firearm in Ohio !
Got this off an assault rifle forum. Will provide link if you'd like...

JACKSON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Deputies say a bizarre shooting Sunday night involved a 4-year-old wielding a shotgun.

The Jackson County, Ohio, Sheriff says some teenagers were babysitting some younger children in a mobile home just outside Jackson.

The police report says a 4-year-old got angry after 18-year-old Nathan Beavers stepped on his foot.

The reports say the boy then went into a back room, loaded a shell in a 20-gauge shotgun, came out and shot Beavers in the arm. The babysitter was hospitalized, but the injury was not life-threatening.

Another teen was also hit with shotgun pellets.

The sheriff says possible violations include aggravated assault against the 4-year-old, and child endangerment against the babysitting victim. Right now, the sheriff is not sure yet if anyone will be charged.

Shouldn't the gun-owning geniuses who taught their 4 year old gun safety be charged??? I just laugh every time someone tells me that their kids have been taught to "respect Daddy's guns and know enough to keep their hands off them when daddy aint around". Them guns is there to protect the young-un's. After all, according to Darwin, it should really cut down on future voting republicans!

1. OK, this line right here tells you this isn't going to end well.
"some teenagers were babysitting some younger children in a mobile home just outside Jackson."

11. Jerry Springer's studio is in Chicago

And that is where they film the episodes.

Jerry Springer was mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio - Not to be confused of course with
Dennis Kucinich, mayor of Cleveland, Ohio.

3. I knew the conversation would eventually involve discriminating against the poor in mobile homes
I just didn't think it would happen so soon.

Shame on you.

6. Why do you assume they're poor because they live in a Trailer?

15. Well I have to point out
Having lived and socialized in a few mobile home parks over the years it is true that one doesn't run into the caviar for appetizers crowd to often.

We've all lived in a mobile home at one time or another, haven't we? I know I have and they're a real bitch during a tough storm.

So lighten up.

On Edit: I should also like to note that "some teenagers" and "babysitting children" and "Jackson" carried more weight than "mobile home" did.

8. I find it difficult
to believe a four year old was able to load and hit anything with a shotgun. I was taught how to use a rifle when I was 8 and as a slight female I had some difficulty with it at first. I am wondering if the teen babysitters were messing with the shotgun.

9. I got my first
gun when I was six (and I'm not a big person). A 20 gauge shotgun is not that heavy, especially if it has a short barrel.

12. The owner of the weapons should have his "right" to own weapons revoked..
part of being a "responsible" gun owner is making sure your guns are not used without your supervision. Since apparently the gun owner failed to have trigger locks or the guns in a locked vault, he should be charged with negligence and the guns confiscated.

How hard is that? I dont have a problem with ppl owning most anything, but there are responsibilities...."classes" dont cut it.

If you own a weapon and the weapon is used without your supervision, then your weapons should be confiscated and you should no longer be allowed to own them.

Pretty basic, simple, and absolute.

Peace,
MZr7

16. Laugh if you want. The "respect Daddy's guns" thing worked
for my brothers and myself when we were growing up. It's not just teaching respect for firearems; it's learning it that's important.

17. The shotgun should have been in a locked case
or at least have a trigger lock. You can pick up trigger locks for free there is just no excuse for not having one.

18. You're right, but
It is easier to secure the shotgun shells than the shotgun. That's what I do. I keep my shotgun loaded in my closet, where I can get to it immediately at night, when it's most likely to be needed.

There are no children in my house. Whenever children visit, I unload the shotgun and put all ammunition in a lock box. It takes a couple of minutes. When the children leave, I restore the shotgun to its ready state.

19. "The sheriff says possible violations include ...
... aggravated assault against the 4-year-old, and child endangerment against the babysitting victim"? Does anybody else here find that statement alarming?
1. Charging a four-year old with aggravated assault? Even if this child is way ahead of the curve, he's four and could not have understood the consequences of his actions well enough for legal purposes.
2. What about the gun's owner. Didn't he/she have a responsibility to keep that gun from being accessible to small children? Or are we supposed to believe that the gun belonged to the teenage victim?
3. What about the parents? They would have had a responsibility to make sure that the children were left in a safe environment.
