Camarillo preschool again marked with swastikas

CAMARILLO, Calif.—A Jewish preschool in Camarillo has been marked with Swastikas and anti-Semitic phrases for the second time in a week and the fourth time in a year.

A parent discovered the hate messages Monday morning.

Ventura County Sheriff's spokesman Capt. Ross Bonfiglio says investigators are calling the incidents as hate crimes it's possible that multiple people are involved.

The preschool is a former elementary school leased from the local school district. It was tagged with Nazi symbols and racist statements twice last summer and again last Wednesday.

Someone I had a "discussion" with about the Middle East told me that. It's the usual "I have nothing against the Jews, but Israel is all evil and fascist"...but inevitably the "discussion" evolves about Jews, not Israelis. Few separate the difference and thus a good hate for Israel sure can replace those latent anti-semetic feelings...and somehow be "justified" about it, if not downright self righteous. It reminds me of those who said they couldn't vote for Obama because he was too "librul" or some other excuse, but you knew it was due to his race. Call it the new way of spreading prejudice without admitting to it.

In 1973 I was in our quiet Rogers Park synagogue when High Holy day services were interupted by a bomb scare...something many in that Congregation (including Holocoust survivors) couldn't fathom. A couple days later a swastika was spray painted on the building and threatening calls to the office. The reason? Blaming the Jews for the oil cutoff during the Yom Kippur War. The congregation had to hire security guards who have been on a retainer ever since. Any time tensions like this flare, so do the number of threats and acts of vandalism. In 2000, the threats became real when Benjamin Smith drove around the neighborhood, killing people walking to that synagogue! So don't say those threats aren't real or just some kinda prank.
