ABC launches new propaganda show, "Homeland Security USA," tonight at 8
It's 'Homeland Security USA' -- and entertainment -- in new ABC show

By LYNN ELBER, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LOS ANGELES -- Ratings champion "American Idol" will face serious competition when it returns this month: the Department of Homeland Security.

"Homeland Security USA," an ABC reality series debuting Tuesday, tracks the daily efforts of the federal workers responsible for safeguarding the nation's airports, borders, waters and anyplace else threats might arise.

While viewers see the mechanics of agencies including Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Transportation Security Administration, absent is discussion of such hot-button issues as post-Sept. 11 security programs or immigration policies. That's by design, said series executive producer Arnold Shapiro, whose credits include "Rescue 911" and "Big Brother."

"It doesn't have a political point of view," Shapiro said. "It's not meant to show the (department) higher-ups ... just the average men and women on the front lines protecting our country from various things illegal and dangerous."

No "political point of view," check. :wow:

I don't know whether to  or :puke:

"We want America back -- that's 'the United States of America' for you clue-deficient, kool-aid guzzling corporate knee benders.

"So ABC, you can just stuff your steenkin, corporate fascist Republicon Homeland meme back in the fear-fanning, anti-Christian, anti-American torture cell where you found it."

- The American people

3. I haven't watched ABC since they aired "Path to 9/11" before the
2006 election.

And I haven't missed it. We have enough propaganda from Rush, Sean, Bill, etc., without ABC joining in.

4. So you've seen the show? You are 100% sure it's propaganda?
Just asking. You see, I haven't watched the show and therefore am not comfortable unequivocally stating that it is "propaganda". But you are likely more media savvy than I, so I'm sure you know.

6. Trust me, it's propaganda.
DHS is a propaganda operation itself, and so is ABC for that matter.

22. Jesus Christ, do you need to see Nazi propaganda personally before deciding it's propaganda?
Exactly what planet have you been living on these past 8 years?

Oh no, nothing I've seen in the last 8 years indicates any propagadistic synergy between the Bushies and the corporate MSM, which gives the orders and detremines what will air.

A real snorer.

Script Segment:

Reporter: We're at the security checkpoint here in the Lindberg Terminal at MSP, speaking to the TSA employee who reminds people about the liquids rule. We won't use her name, for security reasons.

Hello. How does your job help protect air travelers from possible terrorism?

TSA Worker (wearing big tag with her name on it): Well, if you have some liquids or gels in your carry-on luggage, they have to be in containers of no more than 3 oz. Then, they have to be in a one-quart ziploc bag. I have some bags here to give people if they don't have their bags.

Reporter: OK. Do a lot of people not know about those rules? I mean, do a lot of people show up without their liquids and gels in a bag?

TSA Worker: Oh, yah...sure. You betcha! Some of them even come with containers that are too large. You'd be surprised, I bet.

Reporter: Well, how about telling us about one of those situations?

TSA Worker: Oh, sure. This one woman came through, and I, you know, asked her, "So, do you have any liquids or gels at all?" So, she goes, "Nope." Then, I'm all, "Are you sure? No toothpaste or stuff like that?" Well, she's all frustrated, and starts looking in her carry-on there. Right off I see she has a jar of lingonberry jelly in there. So, I tell her, "You can't carry that lingonberry helly with. You'll have to check it." Then, she goes, "Wait...wut? It's just jelly." I tell her, "It's a gel ma'am. That's why they call it jelly." Well, she gets all postal on me, but finally throws the stuff into the big trash can we have here and goes ahead and goes through.

Reporter: I see. But, is some jelly really a threat?

TSA Worker: I don't know about that. You just can't take it on the plane. By the way, me and Ellen split that jam up. It's real good on an English muffin.

13. Ha. So does the DHS and its army of cash cows.
If ever there was a waste of federal bazillions, DHS is it. If the buildings and fixtures bring in a couple of million it'll be the first time it's ever shown a return.

17. Love the answer to the question
"How does your job help protect air travelers from possible terrorism?"

Apparently, the only thing that liquids or gels in your carry-ons have to do with terrorism is that not having them makes you follow rules and gives low-paid TSA "workers" a sense of power. And jelly.

ABC really hits the mark with this one. A real blockbuster of a TV show! Not.

14. Dave Letterman had a brilliant piece last night about the show
He played the flag waving intro to the show. The show's intro is a series of quick cuts of good looking, young, serious looking people marching, brandishing scary looking weapons, wearing cop "ninja" outfits and running around all with patriotic music blaring in the background. Letterman then showed old, out of shape baggage screeners, security guards etc wearing Homeland Security patches with the same music. It was a riot!

Josef Goebbels was a piker compared to the modern wizards of propaganda and lies in American media.

18. I just saw the show
and I am so happy to see that already the blogs are ablaze about this bunch of propaganda. My God, I feel like we are back in the 60's. Let's just scare the shit out of everybody over nothing.

Interesting to look at the Producer's Bio on IMDB. Arnold Shapiro is a total hack and pretty much hasn't worked since 2003. Even he isn't portraying this as anything other than propaganda.

But, let's just scare the idiots, cause face it, most of Americans are idiots.

20. I saw the trailers.
And knowing it was ABC, I said no way am I watching this propaganda.

If they actually did anything meaningful, other than inflicting Chertoff and Brownie on us, I'd consider.

p.s. I'm not talking about you, Agent Mike. You're doing a fine job.
