Chicago's Finest?: Off-Duty Cop Caught On Tape Beating Bartender
He wanted one more drink. And when Karolina the bartender refused, the off-duty Chicago cop punched and kicked the 115-pound woman in a sickening display of violence caught on videotape.

1. And this is lovely:
"Other men in the bar watched passively as Abbate kicked Karolina, grabbed her hair, slammed her against the bar, threw her on the floor and punched her repeatedly as she tried to get up, the videotape shows. One man appeared to make a cell phone call."

5. Yes, and civilian review boards need to be stronger
so that it isn't just the exceptional cases that result in some kind of penalty.

If only he had a taser.

8. What
a bag of donuts? Seriously I think no else joined the fray to help that poor women because he may have been armed. If so, this could have turned even more ugly.

10. hmm, unless they're undercover,
cops drink in the same tavern. I wonder how many other patrons were public servants.

12. I know a few real asshole cops here
in Michigan. Two fo them were dating and didn't tell anyone so they could be partners. Long story short, they pulled a guy over who got out of his car with a knife so they shot him in the head and killed him. Did they get in any trouble? Nope. Also, the male cop has a restraining order on him by his ex-girlfriend. I agree, some real assholes gravitate towards jobs like this.

13. I saw that video on the news this morning
It was horrible. They said that her jaw and shoulder were hurt. I felt so bad for that woman, and no one went to help.

I hope that asshole goes away for a long time.

15. and the other male patrons just stood there and let him beat her
Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 06:16 PM by SemperEadem
and kick her and did nothing to stop him.

His life should be destroyed behind this shit. He has gotten away with intimidating people for far too long and thank God the bar owner installed the camera to tape him being who he cannot ever escape being--a train wreck waiting to happen.

A 'good guy' doesn't go around beating up women just because they can't have one more drink.

16. Doncha' love the CNN survey?

There was a survey earlier today (gone now) that asked if you would have stepped in and defended the woman.

Over 90% of replies said YES.

YEAH!!! effin right.

If that is true then why is it the two times that I have had to mace or beat down off-duty cops who were assaulting someone, I had no help at all?

The CNN survey didn't even mention that he was a cop.

17. Those wimps who stood there helplessly could have beaned
him from behind with on of those bar stools. On Catherine Crier today, it was brought up that he is a regular who flashed his badge around when he was there and the patrons might not have know there was a video camera. They might have been afraid of facing charges of assault on an officer. F that, it would have been assault on a drunken bully and justifiable in MHO. Hope they put him in the General Population. Inmates frown on abuse of females.

19. What a scumbag.
Lock him up, throw away the key.
Better yet, let the bartender have a go at his balls with a baseball bat rolled in glass chips and wrapped in barbed wire. Then let's see if he feels so 'tough'.
