1. Prolly get whacked if you proposed a lottery in NV or MS.
Not sure about the others, but you don't want to get between organized crime... er, gambling interests, and a buck.

2. "The lottery is a tax on people who can't do math."
;)

That said, I buy one every week, cuz you can't win if you don't play!

3. This is true, but it is a voluntary tax.
I've already decided should I win over 100 million in the Powerball, every registered user here at D.U. gets $10,000.:)

So whatever you do, don't get tomb-stoned or you'll be kicking your self for years.;(

6. Uncle Joe --- !
Here's to wishing you luck in the Powerball. :hi:

Four of us at work each pitch in a quarter once or twice a week to play Powerball as well. Throwing away 25 cents at a time hurts a lot less.

5. Here in NC
when the lottery came into existence, there was a court challenge by NC Institute for Constitutional Law to the passage of the law allowing the lottery based upon the stance that a lottery is a de facto tax and the legislature didn't follow the proper procedure for passing a new tax.

The suit was struck down and the judge's justification was that "No person is forced to purchase a lottery ticket (therefor) the lottery act does not impose a tax on the purchaser of a lottery ticket."
