18. Off-shore drilling was approved by Congress...
How was that his fault? And other things, how do we know what he will do once he has power to make the choices?

21. During the election he voted for it when it became politically opportune for him
Nothing new there, and again, he shares the burden of doing so with all 538 members of Congress (not to mention Bush)

3. I think lying is a human trait
We don't like to admit it, but we all lie about something for a variety of reasons.

8. I should have had your answer listed as well
I think it is very sad that a majority of Americans just accept the fact that their elected officials are not truthful, and it really doesn't matter what political Party they belong to.

with a nuanced answer. These sorts of black/white preconditions are usually preludes to something like that.

So what's the actual question?

11. No not really
I guess what I really should have asked is do you think politicians are more deceitful that the average person and if so do you think it is the person or the job, or is it just part and parcel? Do you believe the profession attracts that sort of person or does it create that sort of person?

20. Then I apologize.
I was too suspicious.

Personally, I don't think political office necessarily *attracts* more deceitful people, but I do think that people who manage to navigate our electoral/funding process (let alone make a career of politics) tend to be more deceitful, yes.

9. Of course
Its the classic definition of politician!
However, I still have confidence in Pres Obama and a few congressmen and women to try to do well by
America.

I believe all other politicians lie at one time or the other.

14. They all lie or at least deliberately mislead people
and slant the truth as well as exaggerate the truth. It's the nature of the business. I don't vote based on what a politicians says. My vote is based on the politicians previous actions as an elected official and whether or not I think they are more likely to affect public policy that will benefit myself, family and my community.

17. I don't disagree that most politicians lie
But how many knowingly lie is the more important question. To be ill-informed is one thing, to deliberately lie to persuade the public is entirely another.

22. Other: you can't please all of the people all of the time
'Lying' in a political context can range from outright falsehood to over-optimistic expectations. To some extent, it's in the eye of the beholder.
