I Heard John Edwards Speak Tonight ------>>>
Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 09:46 PM by Stephanie

I apologize for the quality of this cellphone photo, but I was so impressed that John Edwards showed up for this event tonight that I thought I'd share it with you. There were maybe 500 people there - it was not a fundraiser. It was a local political group in NYC who'd invited him to speak. They charged $7.00 at the door. Edwards spoke about moral courage, and that America needs to be a force for good in the world again. And below is a quote that I scribbled down.

"Something that Elizabeth said last night in the hospital - she said, the thing about having this
cancer is that it gives me the freedom to speak the truth. And that's how I feel too."
- John Edwards 3/22/07

13. Their attitude seems to be -
that the problems of two little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this world. they are in it for the greater good.

14. Hell compare what it would be to have a steaming turd President to what we have now...
I would take the turd any day.

(Please note that is NOT an attack on Edwards, I like the guy and think he would likely be a great President I am simply pointing out how horrible Bush is.)

17. most politicians don't suffer like this..
it takes a major illness of someone you love before you understand what suffering from cancer, AIDS, diabetes, kidney disease, or Alzheimer's is like! People suffer from these life diminishing diseases while they pay for it financially.

I hope Edwards stays in this race, and hope others like Edwards will get behind his campaign. Neocons can crap all over this if they wish, but who can say John and Elizabeth are not prolife?

I was thrilled to get in. The line was half a block long and I hadn't RSVP'd so I wasn't on the list. I waited and waited and they finally let me in. It was worth it. I can support him without reservation. I've been holding out for Gore but I'm in full support of Edwards now after hearing him speak. He modified the old Wellstone motto, "vote for what you believe in." Edwards' motto is, "FIGHT for what you believe in." That works for me.

27. John Edwards continues to grow as a candidate on me
Edited on Fri Mar-23-07 06:14 PM by tom_paine
This was even before Elizabeth's terrible tragedy. And yes, in a strage way how they have turned this tragedy into a bit of a blessing. They are already losing the most precious thing to them next to their kids...each other  (may that day be long in coming), so they are free to speak freely and powerfully.

What is a few O'Reichley-Savage lies next to losing a 30+ year love?

Elizabeth, the one time she came on DU, made it very understandable why she is held in the highest regard, even by Loyal Bushies. She only responded to me once, but in her response one could see that decency of her soul shining through.

In ALL her 25 or 30 responses in that short period of time.

29. A quote by Ibsen....
Edited on Fri Mar-23-07 07:54 PM by EVDebs
"The thing is, you see, that the strongest man in the world is the man who stands most alone."
Henrik Ibsen

I'm sure with Ibsen's respect for women that he meant 'Man' in the broadest sense !

32. He was funny. He was talking about economic disparity ->
He said, "I've done very, very well. In fact I have a nice big house." and then he waited while everyone was laughing. then he said that he didn't believe in having two Americas, the rich and everyone else.

34. A Quick Added Note... I Got An Email From Him Today & Even Though
I just blew a bunch going to D.C. on the 17th, I contributed to his campaign again and sent them a personal note.

I feel very strongly about his "family values" and felt the need to contribute... just in case! We are a lower income family but we do have some assets that we can tap into. If by some "fluke" we can sell our 5 acres here in Florida, I will gladly give them more.

I shop VERY frugally and try extremely hard to be energy efficient. I would LOVE to NOT run my A.C. this year, but my 95 yr. old mother-in-law lives with us and has severe Alzheimer's so it may not be possible. She's been with us for 8 years now.

We had a very very warm winter and I'm really wondering about this summer. I worry about mosquitoes, fleas and termites coming at us in droves because we never even got a hint of frost. Throw in the "fire ants" and it may be a real bust! Oh and one more thing.... RED TIDE... it was awful these past two years and I live about a mile from the Gulf. Nasty, nasty stuff and I may not be able to keep from running my air!

Anyway, I know many here think Edwards is only an opportunist, but I've seen him in person and watch him whenever I can giving speeches and addressing the concerns of America. Good looks DO NOT necessarily mean you have NO SOUL! And Elizabeth is simply phenomenal and I pray she will be able to "kick" this thing be the bright shining light that will help lead America back to what it once was!!!

I can't say I was happy about the Iraq War situation, but in comparison to the MOUNTAIN of mistakes the BFEE has thrust upon America, it pales to some extent!

The CORRUPTION that has been perpetrated upon us is way beyond anything that a so called DEMOCRACY should have had to endure!!!
