Palin casts herself as a bullied Cinderella, Caroline Kennedy as an evil stepsister
From a bottom-line, mobilize-the-vote perspective, the point is to give your supporters some very specific (if not entirely accurate) examples of that which you are going to make a foundation of your campaign. By taking on the role of a bullied but fiesty Cinderella and casting Kennedy as a kind of a wicked-stepsister unfairly favored by the evil media, Palin throws a metaphoric pre-emptive shoe at anyone who dares to criticize or disagree with her version of the truth, regardless of subject matter.

11. You're giving her too much credit.
I think Palin is more the poured glass with the uneven seam marks you find in the dollar store.

15. Glad she is up in Alaska being bitter. Sorry to the other folks in Alaska.
The media is wasting a lot of revenue going up to Alaska talking to the witch.

6. Keep her front and center
She exemplifies the malaise of the Republican Party. The Palin Family is a dysfunctional unit that reflects the lack of values share by Republicans. Only an ignoramus who believes that the earth was created 6,000 years ago who also believe that she is an expert on Russia since she can see it from her poach. The audacity of the Republican Party to select her as their candidate to be Vice President reveals the depths to which their party has fallen.

vulnerable to community organizers like Caroline Kennedy.

8. This Is All For Her "Base"
Yep...this lady thinks those Joe the Plumbers and dead enders who showed up at her rallies and call in the hate radio shows are her ticket to fame and fortune. Laugh as you may (and it's strongly encouraged) but this lady is sure that her inept party will rise from the ashes led by the fundies and the neo cons...and when that happens she's "golden".

The game here is to play the victim card...the one the GOOP has perfected over the years and milk it for all its worth. Many GOOPers are still in denial...don't believe they lost and these are the goons Palin is playing to. While it won't lead her to the White House any time soon...it sure will keep her in the "public eye" which means fundraising and speaking fees. Methinks she's looking for a way to cash in...she got a taste of the big time and she wants more.

9. There is something to be said for that.

Beyond her nuttery and lack of knowledge there was an underlying class bias against Palin, particularly here at DU.

Caroline Kennedy, on the other hand, gets a pass by many here simply for having chosen her parents well.

Class is always an issue, the issue.

14. There Was a HUGE Contingent of Class Criticism Against Palin - But
Palin is playing a false dichotomy in some ways; trailer-park elements aside, the greatest difference between Palin's messed up family and CK's messed up family is the national news media has covered the triumphs, tragedies, and fuck-up-eries of the Kennedys for 40 years, so it's not news to us.

despite the shit train of publicly recognized flaws of the Kennedy family they are still considered golden, worthy of high office, qualified or not.

Regardless of their flaws. The Palins have yet to be tested in that.

20. Just assuming that 'public service' has been an unalloyed good

for the moment, how does that assure us that this particular Kennedy is up to snuff? Do we assume osmosis or something?

21. Palin and Blago should run away together
Let them go live in a cabin in the woods and be crazy. Every once in a while they could release a tape like Bin Laden or, maybe, Bravo could give them a reality show.

27. I agree that she is delusional...
...but so are so many of the voters who make up her core constituency.

She comes out of that tradition of mistrusting anything that doesn't already fit her pre-formed notions of reality, and one has only to visit some of the so-called Red States to see how widespread that kind of thinking is. She's doing everything she can to make her base feel victimized and picked on, and that could carry her to the GOP nod in 2012. Doubtful, but she's going about it in the most pragmatic way for someone of her ilk.

I think her most bitter line was the bitchy quip re: how the universe doesn't revolve around Katie Couric. Tundra Woman sure has some simmering aggression waiting to get out.

Because the right wingers created that whole "culture of victim-hood" meme as a tool to fight civil rights gains.

26. Palin apparently has some money
but she likes to pretend she's middle class economically. She had a chance and she blew it. Caroline Kennedy is prepared for a political career not only by her family name and connections, but by her education. I doubt Katie Couric could stump her in an interview even if she really tried.
