Naming this military vessel after George HW Bush is problematic, given the disrespect the Bush family has shown for the American constitution. And given the hatred unleashed the world over by the Bush name, asking US military personnel to serve on a carrier so named is surely exposing them to extra unnecessary risk. All around, this is one ship with a history before it ever sets sail.


And the paragraph above that one is also interesting.

11. Well Poppy was the next Republican president in line.

They are not naming this ship for Poppy because of his service aboard carriers. The christening of the USS Saint Ronnie proved that. They are naming them all for loser Republican presidents. Gerald Ford gets the next one. Carter got a sub named for him. She is a noble boat but not as stately as one of these carriers. Yes, I know Carter served aboard a sub. But as I said, related military service is not the determining factor.

It was disgusting how they broke Navy tradition to christen her ahead of sea trials, just so they could better turn the ceremony into an enormous Bush family party.
