$300,000,000,000 = 4,000,000 X $75,000
300 billion dollars

That is all it would take to put 4 million people to work @ $75,000/year.

1. For one year, and then what?
It actually requires capital investment of much more than $75,000 to create a job that lasts indefinitely. Capital investment per employee varies considerably by industry, but it is generally in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Would you rather piss away $300 BILLION on a useless war.

Who exactly benefits from that??

17. 5, 10, 20 Who knows. Would you rather spend 300 billion on a war
to benefit a few thousand in the MIC, or use that money to
employ 4,000,000 people at a livable wage??

37. No, but spending X billion dollars to hire bureaucrats
does nothing for me. The produce nothing. We need steel workers, auto worker, miners, loggers, truck drivers, farmers. Giving X Billion to X million
works for a short time but does not produce real wealth. Whow do you propose to start up the mills, factorys, shops, sides etc.

4. That used to be the amount when our debt was only 9 trillion
It has gone up by a couple of trillion since then..Imagine if all of a sudden we started seeing some real inflation...Say interest rates jumped to three percent or four percent..or heaven forbide as they were in the seventies, eighteen percent..

3. But After The Bankers Get Their Share, Only 100B Left
Edited on Sat Jan-10-09 10:54 AM by MannyGoldstein
So maybe 1.3 million jobs. Although the bankers will hire people to clean the pool, etc, so perhaps a few more jobs.

Also, if $300B a year is as insufficient as Paul Krugman argues, then we may have deflation, which will cause the Predator Class to pare spending, which will also reduce jobs quite a lot.

8. Doncha think that's a little simplistic....
I mean, what are they to do...manufacturing has gone to China; customer service has gone to India; financials are hiding in the Caymans. Putting thousands in reflective vests staring down holes in the roads doesn't seem viable either because they're untrained to do that.

Oh, and don't forget the approximate 33% tax rebate back to the benefactor, Uncle Sam, for military services rendered in occupied lands.

However, out of this 3-person household, you can sign two of them up as job-site surfing "Economic Stimulators" and bring on those bi-weekly checks.

Yup, that'll work! Maybe I can go to the doctor, dentist, and get new glasses.

16. Simple doesn't mean simplistic.
Unlike the bank bailout, for instance, $300 directly to citizens would create a great many jobs among those who provide goods and services to the recipients.

How about some trickle up economics? It would have to work better than what we've been doing.

28. I tried Delaware and New Jersey then gave up.
I guess money doesn't really go as far as we would like it to and that is my point. Giving 4 million people jobs for a year doesn't really go that far. It sounds big until you look at it on a map.

31. I think that is a great goal.
It would enable peole to do good works for the nation and pull thamselves out of poverty.I would like to see maybe half of that translated to jobs that paid $45,000 a year for unskilled/semi-skilled labor to help the truly poor pull themselves up.

What we need is a $2 trillion redistribution of wealth.

Tax the FILTHY RICH, which will leave them only STINKING RICH,
and push the money back in at the bottom.

you've done nothing that simply printing an extra three hundred billion wouldn't have done.

work to be done. I bet if you think about it for five minutes
even you could come up with a list of jobs eliminated under bush
that we really need.
