Poll question: King Kone vs. Ben&Jerry
There are two ice cream stands in Pittsfield, MA. One is a local shop, King Kone. The other is a corporate franchise, Ben&Jerrie's.
I'm curious. Given the choice, which stand would you get ice cream from?

3. They mostly do soft ice cream - choc..van..and mixed
Basically it is a shoe string operation in the heart of inner city Pittsfield.
$1.00 for a small.
$2.00 cones (as big as you want!)
I was just drivin around the town...chillin...when I thought I saw a couple of black kids with white light sabers. On closer inspection the kids were walking away from King Kone with ice cream cones that were almost a foot high. They were trying with all their might to keep those things up right. It was a wild scene.

So no doubt - B&J have the gourmet thing down. You can buy a single scoop cone for $3 bucks. I don't think that they have soft icecream... Not sure.

What is amazing is that B&J and King Kone are only about 4 blocks from each other.

7. Okay, well, in that case,
I'm going for King Kone. I don't particularly like soft serve, but it isn't really worth that much of a price difference.

9. With that in mind, I went King Kone.
I love Ben and Jerry's, but for a cone I prefer soft serve, and that's a nice deal they've got.

4. We have one Ben and Jerry's in Columbus, Ohio
I'm not sure it competes well with our homegrown ice cream places, which are much better than B&J and that's no exaggeration:

Jeni's: http://jenisicecreams.com/0505signature9.html

10. I have the Jeni's blackberry and sweet corn seasonal ice cream
horded away in my freezer.

That said, there is not a better butter pecan to be had than Greaters (or cookie dough), nor is there a more fun day than a trip to the North Market for Jeni's ice cream and other good eats.

Where is the Ben and Jerry's?

12. It's supposed to be on Lane Avenue.
There was one in the arena district but it closed. I just googled it and there was one shown on Lane. The blackberry and sweet corn ice cream is amazing. Also great is the Thai Chili ice cream.

13. I need to make a trip back up this weekend....
after it warms up to 20 degrees. I love her flavor combos...the peach sorbet is also a delight.

It is dang BRRRR right now and soon to get colder...and here we are talking Ice Cream....at least the snow is pretty right now, until I go out and drive in it in about 45 minutes...then I am sure it will become ugly.

:)

6. Depends on the prices and what they sell.
Knowing nothing, I'd go to King Kone, but if the ice cream is a worse value for the money, forget it. I like to support local businesses, but not for charity.

11. I agree...
Locally we have 4 local ice cream shops and a DQ. I never go to the DQ, I go to the inner city local spot. The three other local spots are owned by GOP leaning owners.

I wonder what the politics of the King Kone owners are? Hopefully, they are leftist. I know B&J are pretty good, all in all..

14. Ben & Jerry really disappointed me when they switched to high fructose corn poison
They have always made a point of not allowing bovine growth hormone in their products, and God bless them for it, but now they're including something even worse? :evilfrown:
