Cell-Phone Ban is pushed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety,
I agree...I use a Cell-Phone but I've seen WAY to many People using cell-phones while driving that scare the hell out of me.
...waving back and forth in their lanes, missing turns, not seeing red lights and generally seem to be "In their own little world"

The facts prove that a large share of American drivers have no business talking on the phone and operating a 3,000 pound vehicle.

SNIP:The science tells when on the phone while driving, it is a high-risk activity -- very, very risky," said Janet Froetscher, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. "But most people don't understand that."

Snip: research has shown otherwise. A 2005 study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that drivers using cell phones were four times as likely to have an accident involving an injury, according to Ann McCartt, senior vice president for research at the insurance institute.

2. a hands-free ban too?
while i agree that a ban on cell phones might be a good thing it does raise a couple of interesting questions. How do you impose a hands-free ban? And what of just talking in the car with the person next to you? Certainly that has caused a myriad of wrecks, particularly when the discussion becomes intense or heated. And while we're at it, we should ban teens from riding in cars together because that in itself causes fatal accidents.

we are going a little far on the cell phone thing...next it will be nothing but one-seater cars for everyone.

3. What you say is true but a cell-phone ban would, at least, be one thing that...
...would be fairly easy to enforce.. (of course, the hands free thing is rather strange)

I can see it now...Police: "I stopped you because I saw your Lips moving and wanted to check if you had a hands-free phone" :)

I know there is no simple answer to enforce people to stop driving like idiots....

4. People need to realize that it is no different than talking on a phone at home.
It is not possible to give anything else the necessary attention needed while talking on the phone.

7. red light cameras, primary enforcement seat belt laws, DRLs
and pretty much anything that makes driving an even bigger pain in the ass without actually increasing safety.
