They were using the definition the analytic school uses for recessionary economies when they entered (they were still wrong about it though), then when the economy got worse they started leaning on the conventional definition.

So, they used one definition to lie about a recession that didn't exist, then used another to lie about how another didn't exist, when it did!

The whole scam was to get people to expect almost nothing good, and then that's exactly what we got for 8 years.
